Hi,
according to the specs, the new T630 features "My Friends" which looks like it is Instant Messaging according to 3GPP / Wireless Village standards.
So far, so good.
But who supports this format? Neither ICQ, MSN, Yahoo nor AIM have some interfaces to this AFAIK. Right? Who would then feed my buddy list?

i believe it would be dependent upon carrier and handset support so it may take a while before it really takes off. although people can also log in from their computers too.

I guess in 2005 your contact list will be feeded enough ;-) New standards like these usually take a while before they're really being used.

Yes, operators need to provide this service. Other phones supporting instant messaging (wireless village standard) are atleast Nokia 3300 US, 6220, 6230, 6800 US, 6810, 6820 and 7200.

OK, now the following scenario:
Assume I do have a P800, using "Agile Messenger" which connects me to AIM, Yahoo, MSN and ICQ in one client.
Now I prefer the small device, the T630, as the Instant Messaging is the feature I am interested into.
My questions:
1. One of my local operators would offer IM according to Wireless Village. That means I can connect to his subscribers, but not to other subscribers / buddies at other local operators when they dont use the same Wireless Village standard. Right?
2. On top, the same problem for international buddies / operators.
Has anybody seen this IM solution being offered in Europe by any operator so far?
I mean it is nice to hear that many phones support this standard, but somehow I need to get connected to my friends/buddies, right?
Opinions wanted!
Tell me why I shouldn't stay with ICQ etc. on a P800/P900 etc. for at least another 1-2 years...

ps: The spam issue mentioned in the posting above - that's an issue, and maybe here's the operator benefit - they can trace back who was the originator of the spam, and then can take countermeasures. That's different to MSN etc. where anybody can send you any amount of spam (although this happens very very rarely to me over there, lucky I am so far...
