> P900 on Vodafone delayed until 1st December?

(Hello all - newbie member here...)
Walked into a Vodafone shop on Saturday and was told they'd had a shipment of P900s in but they'd been rejected as having buggy software. Expected date for fix and re-delivery was 1st December. They had no mock-up phone (said that was rejected too!) and could not give me any idea of pricing.
Walked down the road to Orange shop and was told they had 4 in stock. They weren't using a mock-up - they had the real thing for people to play with. I was very impressed. Got the full run-down on pricing. Was told I could walk away with one (if I'd the necessary ID on me). But I really don't like the Orangeification they do to their phones.
Walked into Carphone Warehouse on Sunday and was told they could supply P900s next day (from their warehouse) but only on Orange. They said that Orange had an exclusive deal right now. This made me very suspicous of the 'buggy software' story I'd got from the Vodafone shop. So at this point I'm trying to work out how long Orange exclusive deal will last.
I've justed called Vodafone customer services and the guy I spoke to have never heard of the P900 - it wasn't listed in his Upgrade Calculator. So he checked his 'Phones Coming Soon' system and found it listed there - with a note "delayed until 1st December". So perhaps the guy in the Vodafone shop wasn't telling porkies.
Anyone got the inside story on this? Elsewhere in this forum people have mentioned 'mid-November' or 'week commencing 17th November' for non-Orange availability. So why do Vodafone think they won't have theirs until 1st December? And what's this buggy software story all about?

yeah Vodafone here in Frankfurt have it. €899 sim free or €599 on 24 month contract. silly prices... but I did get to play with one last night and it did suitably impress style wise compared to the p800

The stock that is due week commencing 17th is GSM stock...ie, Sim Free version...
thats the same as what is sold on O2 and Voda...
Whether it will have Voda network approval straight away is anyones guess..
Phones all seem to fail Voda UK testing but are fine byu everyone else!
Voda are always long winded when it comes to Network Approval on handsets as is shown now with the Nokia 6600...(its available Sim Free and O2 Only...)
The phone is lovely tho...just got mine today...

How many P900s have CPW now sold in the week that they have been available? (probably all to Esato people!)

Careful throwing around comments like that - Voda may well Live!ify the phone in their usual way, possibly locking it at the same time. Certainly used to be true about unattributed GSM stock being meant for Voda & O2, but for most phones now that's been reduced to just O2

Hope you're right - but remember what they did to the T610? First ones out with it, could have made a mint with the PAYG's - but they ruined them with their nasty logos and customisations. Got rid of my Voda one immediately, had a T-bag one for a while, which was a little more usable, but weeks later just went out and got a SIMfree for my O2/Orange contracts.
O2 seem to be the only network left not branding, customising and locking the majority of their phones now - Voda have gone from being with the best to being the worst offender of all. Orange is just bearable, once you rid yourself of the logos on the casing, as I did with my P800 on day of release - but this time (P900 time!) I'm waiting for SIM free. Fed up with having to remove customisations & get handsets SPunlocked before anyone actually knows how to do it.

heh...
I remember talking to you about rushing to unlock this p800 almost a year ago and I totally agree - it wasnt worth the hassle & expense..
I shall be killing my Orange contract asap & upgrading as soon as Voda get them.
Nice....
