This is really wierd. When my P800 is cradled, using Opera I can browse quite happily using my desktop's Internet connection.

But when I use the built-in 'Internet' browser, it *insists* on calling up one of my phone connections and doesn't seem to see the desktop connection at all. Is it just me? Am I being stupid? Or is 'Internet' limited in this way?

TIA,

It's a limitation of the internal browser I'm afraid.

Stick to Opera.

(why are you browsing on the P800 via the cradle anyway???)

Good question, maybe he prefers squinting at very small writing.

Ru

I have bought a new long range BT dongle - I understand one can use the same principle of surfing using Opera via a PC/laptop connection to the internet. This was I can check emails / view Esato posts / etc from anywhere in my house using my P900. For text rich sites, eg Esato, the P900 form factor is adequate for me.

Supposedly you can with a BT dongle. I dont really know why people would want to use Opera on their P800 next to their desktop when they have a screen 20 times the size!

But the notion of Bluetooth and Opera is an excellent one....same principle as WiFi i suppose....so im going to get rid of my laptop then and use Opera + P900 + Bluetooth dongle!

Thanks. It's mainly for testing out Internet stuff without going online and incurring unnecessary phone charges. I have to write all these Hints and Tips for PDA Essentials and Palmtop User magazines, you see!

Great idea about the long-range BT link - I'll try this out next week, I think!

What BT adapter are you guys using to make the connection? And are you making a connection through the connections in XP for example or is the connection made through the bluetooth software itself?

Thanks

@slitchfield

Hello Steve, remember you from my early 3c,5mx,revo, netbook days. Welcome to our little community.

Moved on to P800/P900 until Psion have the sense to bring out a Revo size Symbian 7 device with built in keyboard, SD expansion, 65K screen, replacable battery, WIFI, Bluetooth ........

I have read previously that there is a work around by deleting all the GPRS connections but it is long winded & messy. Better to stick with the Opera browser except that doesn't appear to work on a pure WAP connection (on Orange anyway).

I use Opera connected to my desktop over Bluetooth & browsing is great laying on the sofa or in bed
