> P900 Music Player - pleasant surprise!
Bookmark topic
I've just discovered that the music player that is built into the P900 can play MP3Pro encoded files!
MP3Pro can sqeeze MP3's down to about 40% of their size without losing quality.
I've just encoded a 9 minute MP3 that was 12Mb down to about 4Mb.
Looks like I wont be needing OggPlayer any more!

couldn't a p800 play mp3 pro files?? But are yuou sure the p900 utilises the pro files? I mean some player can play them, but they dont use the second pass, and therefore it's really useless and just like encoding your mp3's to a lower bitrate.

Yes, the P800 could play MP3Pro files as well... but didn't make use of the 'pro' features. I highly doubt the P900 uses the 'pro' algorithms either.

that's right,mp3pro format is compatible with all mp3 players, but u WON'T get any benefit from its better quality and smaller file size if ur player doesn't support mp3pro and i doubt SE is welling to pay more licensing fees for a format not widely used.

I don't see the problem with oggs. I think they are pretty decent quality assuming that you don't reduce the bit-rate too much and of course they can be made a lot smaller than MP3s.
