> P900 T9 bug - initial capitals?
Bookmark topic
Hi All,
I have noticed something odd regarding T9 input on the P900. Perhaps any owners would like to try this and confirm - or tell me where I am going wrong!
Make sure Ab mode is selected (initial capitalisation). Then enter "hello. world". On my phone, this comes out as "Hello. world". Note that "world" has no initial capital, where I think it should have. The T68i gives "Hello. World", which I think is correct behaviour.
The only way I can get an initial capital (other than the very first word in the SMS, which is automatic) is to re-select "Ab" mode at the start of each sentence. A pain!
Can anyone confirm this bug or am I doing something dumb?!
Thanks!

Is english your first langauage? There should only be capitalisation at the beginning of a sentence and at proper nouns. 'Hello world' is correct, 'Hello World' is not.

The guy is right, re-read his post.
"Hello. World."
is effectivey two (grammatically incomplete, but ignore that!) sentences. Note the fullstop between the two.
Can't say whether my P900 does that or not, since it's still being made/sitting in a box somewhere - won't have one until official UK stock comes out without little Orange squares on the bottom - but I'm sure someone else can answer his question.

No he is wrong, because as you pointed out the 'sentences' are grammatically incorrect. It should read 'Hello world' in the venacular or formally as 'Hello world.'
Sorry to be pedantic, but then again a machine is pedantic.

Ah, but let us change the words to;
"The gunman sighted through his scope so the crosshairs lined up with Bush. He pulled the trigger, but he jerked the gun at the last moment, and the deadly pretzel about to pass to the Presidents lips was blown out of his hand."
And does the T9 on the P900 then change "Bush. He.." to "Bush. he.."?? (I do of course realise [hope] that the name 'Bush' is not capitalised in the T9 dictionary - but some similar example would dictate having capitalised words both sides of the stop.)
And T610 T9 does display "Hello. World" - was about to try my P800 too, before rethinking the idea

Ok, I chose a very simple example to illustrate the T9 behaviour, but this seems to be controversial! How about trying entering this:
"this is a correct sentence. this is also a correct sentence."
This should be interpreted by T9 (with Ab selected) as
"This is a correct sentence. This is also a correct sentence."
but, it actually results in
"This is a correct sentence. this is also a correct sentence"
... except the second sentence is now not correct as it has no initial capital!
Comments and observations, P900 owners?

xray you are right.
This as well as a phone call recording option should have been an option in the phone. It would be great if there was also a way of storing numbers easily without the flip open. Ie. if you recieve a call from someone and you want to save that number. Oh well, maybe it gets fixed in the next firmware release?

@Xraydelta -
Does the 'Ab' stay selected after entering the first sentence, and pushing fullstop and then space - or does the phone automatically change it to 'ab' after the first word/after the fullstop or similar is entered?
Not saying that this isn't a bug - indeed, I would consider it one myself if this is the case - just wondering if you have the chance to change back to Ab again after completing a sentence & before commencing the first, despite the irritation this would cause.

The "Ab" flag (displayed at the top of the screen) stays set throughout, so the phone seems to think it is in this mode, although behaves as if in "ab" mode after the first sentence is completed.
In order to get initial capitalisation, "Ab" must be re-selected at the start of each sentence, as far as I can tell. Maddening!
