Anyone out there in Esato land know if it is possible to get decent GPRS in Kerala in South India? I am going to be in Kovalam on the coast near Trivandrum and am very curious to know if I might be able to get GPRS Internet there. Any info gratefully received. With Kind Regards Matthew.

The majority of indian mobile operators run GPRS so you would need to contact your service provider and ask them who they are affiliated to in south India.
Not a problem can be done !

Man I am from Kerala, but now in UK, so don't know exactly whether their is gprs available in Kerala. The mobile service providers there are Escotel, BPL mobile, Airtel and BSNL. Will do a search for you and will inform you today. When you are going to contribute to the Kerala tourism I should help shouldn't I?

. You chose the right place for holiday mate its one among the top 50 tourist places in the world selected by BBC and national geographic.
EDIT:
Did a search mate but couldn't find in which cities you will be able to use GPRS. To be frank there isn't much info about GPRS on their websites. I am quite sure they are providing gprs in kerala and since you are very near to the capital city you won't have a problem. If you are using roaming, then I know 02 has associations with almost all of the service providers out there, I am on 02 here. Sorry that I am of not that much help

Many thanks for the messages. I am going to be staying in lovely Kovalam for the third time (first went in 95) My favourite place in the world. I am trying to get hold of Vodafone here in the UK to see what they can offer as as a link up with a GPRS service in Kerala is concerned. I am surprised that you think there will be GPRS service there, I am still doubtful about it. Many thanks Matthew.

Simply ask ur provider in uk that do they have any tie up with any operators in the city you're visiting. Then manually switch over to that network once in kerala. And don't switch 2 any other

Vodafone do not have a partner for GPRS in India which is a shame. I will have to contact O2 and Orange and see if they are able to do anything. Thanks Matthew.
