I have previously owned a Nokia 7210 and my email client was working fine. When I swapped phones to the above I kept the same number. After I sold my Nokia I had a strange email to myself which I discovered came from my old Nokia and the person who bought it!

Anyway, my telephone number is already registered with Orange and I cant remember my username or password and am not going to pay 50p/min to find out what it was.

What other email clients are good for using on the phone?? I have an NTLWORLD account but cant figure out the setup to do this correctly. I've read the sticky on different setups but they all seem to be for stuff that isnt Orange.

If anyone can point me in the right direction on what email provider to use easily and a basic set up guide I would be very grateful.

ps: Would it then be cheaper do you think to send an email with a photo message to another phone rather than spending 25p on a photo message?

Right, first of all, you need a dial up internet number (orange give you freeserve details, if you ring), or have gprs enabled on the phone.

To add dial up number as connection:
1) go to connectivity/data comm./data accounts/new account
2) gsm data
3)pick a name (eg ntldial up)
4)Add dial up number you've been given
5)add your dial up sign in and password
6) Save it
7) go into data accounts and click on new account you created and select edit
8)make sure password request id set to off
9) data rate: 9.6 kbits/s
10)dial type: isdn
11) enter dns address (you need to get this from the selected isp)
(I prefer gprs, it's just easier!)

to set up email address:

1) go to email/options/edit account/new account and name it ( eg NTL)
2)connect using: use either dial up number you have been given by freeserve/ntl, or select "Orange GPRS Internet"
3)Protocol - i presume with NTL it's pop3 (i use ntl email address on my phone)
4)incoming server:pop.ntlworld.com
5)incoming port 110
6)mailbox: part of NTL world email address before @ sign.
7)Password: Your NTL password
8)outgoing server: smtp.ntlworld.com
9) outgoing port: 25
10)email address: your email address
11)Download: headers and text

the rest of them are optional.

Get a' downloading!

The email account that I use on my T610 is from punkass.com and its a free POP3 account.
The account works on my phone but the only problem is that I can't receive images when getting the emails on my phone. However I can receive the images on the email in Outlook Express so the chances are its not the email accounts fault.

These are the settings that I use in email:

connect using: (im on orange pay as you go so I use "PAYG GPRS INTERNET")
protocol:pop3
incoming server:pop.punkass.com
incoming port:110
mailbox:username@punkass.com (you might not need the @punkass.com part but it works if you put it in)
password:your password(I bet you never would have guessed that)
outgoing server:smtp.punkass.com
outgoing port:25
mail address:username@punkass.com

note: punkass.com should be changed in all the settings if you sign up for a different domain name. e.g. Hotpop.com

These settings should work if you sign up for an email account but if you get error messages like 'server not found' then you could try opening the command promt in windows (start menu ---> run ---> type in 'cmd' and click ok) and typing in 'ping pop.punkass.com'. Then write down the IP address that it is pinging and use this in the email settings instead of using pop.punkass.com (the same can be done for smtp.punkass.com) you should of course change these if your email address has a different domain name e.g. 'ping pop.hotpop.com'.

You can use the email with attachments to send pictures and I have found if you send one or two pictures at a time it occasionaly costs 1p. Which is cheaper than a picture message however I don't know how you would send it to another phone as an picture message.

I must say that the orange email account sounds good if you receive an txt message when you have an email.

Hope this helps.

You can set orange up to only alert you if there are mails from certain people or with certain words in the subject, as I recall. I used to have a contract with them and I remember that sms text alert service being pretty reliable. Which is more than can be said for the o2 version because I signed up for it a month ago and so far have had no alerts whatsoever !

It`s cheaper to email a photo to another email instead of MMS it.

o2 are pretty good for pop-3, though it is easier to use their ip address for incoming and smpt servers (193.113.160.13).

Not sure if a phone can see an picture in an email can it?
