P900 uses MP3 as ringtones.Why do you want .wav ,when you have .mp3 ,if you want you can download some software to decrease the bitrate (if you want to decrease the size and quality).If you want e special moment from the song ,you have to use analog converting e.g. I use WINAMP to play my MP3s ,so I play the song and when the moment of the song wich I want I recor it with Creative Recorder.The recording is set to 'what you hear'.(my sound card is Creative Audigy 2 ZS PLATINIUM PRO).

Or get an MP3 editor... It elliminates the 'capture' phase in your process. View the MP3 as a virtual wav file and highlite a section and "save selection as" or something similar to... As far as crunching down the file size, one would not need to degrade quality as well.. There are a couple tools I use that crunch the size and maintain the same quality through some quality/size ratio tweaks.

How do you compress the mp3 without degrading the quality, is it ogg codec u are referring to ?

MP3 pro format is a compressed version of regular mp3s with the same audio quality... It is not ogg. I don't know of any freewares.
