It depends on how many and what sort of changes has done in the newer firmware.
No matter what; it allways to preform a backup on your PC before preforming an upgrade, things might go wrong in the prosess.

I have been through all the T610 firmware upgrades and have never lost any contacts, pictures, sounds settings etc.

You may lose SMS but I always delete mine after reading so cannot be sure.

where in the Surrey area exactly? thats a big area!

I use Yendell Communications in Addlestone myself. They are very friendly and were very keen to get onto Esato once I told them about it. They stopped opening on Saturdays though until after Christmas so thats a pain for me.
