From what I gather contacts and ringtones stay. Not sure about call lists or SMS.

It depends on how many and what sort of changes
has done in the newer firmware.
No matter what; it allways to preform a backup on your PC before preforming an upgrade, things might go wrong in the prosess.

I have been through all the T610 firmware upgrades and have never lost any contacts, pictures, sounds settings etc.
You may lose SMS but I always delete mine after reading so cannot be sure.

where in the Surrey area exactly? thats a big area!
I use Yendell Communications in Addlestone myself. They are very friendly and were very keen to get onto Esato once I told them about it. They stopped opening on Saturdays though until after Christmas so thats a pain for me.
