TBH, most shops that do unlock do exactly the same that you can from home - unlocking via cable and logs. Goto mobilefun.co.uk or similar and they have full instructions. Costs about £10-12 for logs from these places, plus you'll need a serial cable - another £7+ if you don't already have one. Bearing in mind that lots of shops charged £20-30 for the P800 unlock early on if they didn't know you, it's probably as cheap to do it this way anyhow.

Disagree. It's a soft unlock, not a forced (hard) partial flash etc which could affect warranty. You are effectively unlocking the handset in exactly the same way as if you phoned orange, got the unlock codes and entered them in the service menu - and no-one is going to know that you didn't do it by this way.

My de-orangified P800 got all the non-Orange firmware upgrades i needed - especially being in london. You go into R's in Tottenham saying that the phone crashes once in a blue moon and they'll give you the latest standard firmware flash in an instant.

I am, I have done exactly the same.

R's have upgraded the firmware
of the Orange P800 that I had unlocked ( just off the Tottenham court
Road ) twice.

Consequently, when the P900 become more available on Orange over the next couple of weeks I shall get one and be straight down the TCR
as I use Vodaphone.

Just the old P800 to part with then ....

unlocking?
hope you got to read this before posting...

Esato does not endorse tampering with the phone yourself. Unauthorized unlocking are unsupported by both SonyEricsson and Esato and it will void the phone's warranty

my 2 cents!

You buy an orange Px00 from a shop, it is yours, not Orange's. Read the T & C's of sale (I'll quote the exact line and section number if necessary) - your phone is aquired by yourself outside of the terms of the contract. That means that by paying £50 to the Link for my P900, i now have complete and sole ownership of the handset - no one else has or may have any claim to it.

It is thus my phone. I authorised myself to unlock it. The British government have authorised myself to make that decision in the first place (there is no illegality in unlocking handsets by any method, providing the IMEI is not altered.) My unlock was fully authorised by the appropriate persons, so I should have no problems with warranty or firmware upgrades. QPD

I would have thought unlocking meant typing in a code... so it is a software solution, i.e. won't void the warranty.

Anyway, there is this R's? It is a proper shop... in Tottenham Court Road itself (towards the Virgin end?)... or somewhere dark in the side alleys....
