Don't rely on programs to close themself.
Don't rely on programs to close when you tell them to.

Reboot your phone. Go STRAIGHT to SMan. Take a snapshot (camera picture). Then whenever the flush button is pressed it will close ALL applications and processes except those included in that snapshot which should, if you did as i said, be the essentials required to run the phone. You can even (as i imagine most of us do) turn the flipclose flush function on, so that every time you closed the flip the flush function performs automatically.

Apologies if you have a genuine problem with your p9 and you already know all this - but this is the most likely scenario. Programs don't actually release memory in many instances without forcing them to with the use of Sman or similar.

A number of us have raised this issue already. Task Man reports I have 7.2MB of RAM when I have 12.1MB free on my c: drive. After constant use all day I am unable to recover more that about 6.3mb unless I re-start. Has not really caused me any issues however.

Edit: just seen Simion's response. I use Task Man to close apps, not sure if this is as good as Sman.

One note - using Sman you can flush proggies, and then after you can press the compress button on the far right hand side of the main shell. This grabs more memory back from proggies (compresses their usage I believe, leaving a bigger remainder.)

With 12MB 'free' (says my Handyday shell, anyhow) on my internal memory, I have normally 7312KB free in SMan on fresh boot, and then 6864KB-7000KB at any point later in the day, after i flush all tasks twice and press the compress button a couple times too. The gap between the 12MB free and the 7000KB actually apparently usable does not concern me all that much. Evidently a small proportion of that is taken up by the crucial tasks that must be memory resident - but I presume the remainder is used as a buffer for applications & normal runtime protocols. Without this reserved, the phone would be in serious trouble when it tried to do anything! My P800 with about the same installed internally (Handyday, Sman & my two wallpapers & two ringtones - everything else is on Duo) had around 8000KB free in the same flushed state. I haven't, however, properly checked through my files - so there may yet be more i can clear on my P9 to free up more RAM.

Final note - with SMan, i've always viewed hidden tasks as well as the user-initiated ones. Most of these are essential, but some may not be. It's possible that i'm closing some hidden tasks that you can't see?
