I think it means there is no ciphering provided by the network.

This is not a SIM feature, but a network one. You will have to call your operator helpdesk and sort it out with them.

U can't do nothing, i have 2 sims from 2 operators , 1 has this problem the other not. i called the support , they told i have to live with it! so i decided to go to a SE center. There they told me that t68 had the same problem and they solved it by disabling the cyphering feature by flashing the phone.(SE had provided them with a special firmware). But until now no solution for the p800 and i don't know why it is so f**** hard! They have done it with t68 so why not with p800?

wow, have to watch out for this problem.
what is ciphering anyway?
how do you know then if the card supports ciphering? is it a HW or SW issue?

It's not the card, but the network that does not provide ciphering. I think it's supposed to protect the privacy of your call by using some type of encryption. I seriously doubt its effectiveness...

is that so?
thanks!
anyway, if its suppose to provide privacy but ends up giving out this loud noise, then it is definitely more of a hindrance than a help

The beep is NOT a bug. It's meant to warn you that there is no ciphering currently being provided by the network.
