A couple of weeks ago I lost my t610, no problem, I just got another one from the insurance. But, lucky for me the lost fone turns up, great I'm thinking, but no. Obviously the fone has been reported lost so the network have blocked the fone now, hence the message when a sim card is inserted "Invalid mobile".

So I go to an independant fone shop and ask them if it can be unlocked and the guy says no, NO? Whatcha mean no? Surely this can't be true?

It is true.

All the networks have formed a big blacklist, and whenever a phone is reported lost or stolen that phone's IMEI number is added to the list. The phone can never be used on any of the networks participating in the blacklist.

when a phone is reported stolen the IMEI is blocked. The only way to get around this is either unblocking the IMEI (can only be done by a network provider) or by changing IMEI of the phone (which is illegal in many countries)...

contact your network provider.

As you reported the phone stolen, and claimed on the insurance - the phone now belongs to the insurance company if found.

Therefore you should inform the insurance company.

If you don't - I believe it is fraud!
