I have been using the P900 for 2 weeks now and it's a great phone BUT, the battery can only keep it running for 2 days (Max.) with minimum usage (phone calls around 20 Min. and PDA usage for 1 hour). I mean comparing this to the phone's data sheet raised alot of questions (for me at least)... I have 1260mAh battery and I dont charge it unless it reaches less than 5%....for all of you who have the P900 ,, IS THIS IS NORMAL ??? if so, then what in the hell is the data sheet is talking about... ?

thanks....

This is the same behaviour that I'm experiencing (with BT on all the time), so yes I'm afraid that this what you better get used to!

What the datasheet is talking about, I guess, is the optimal environment (read lab testing) where the phone is placed right next to the radio antenna etc etc.....

So basically we are all being filled with bullshit every time we read these batery life spec's!

The thing to do is untick the "Visible to other devices" box, you can still send via BT with you normal devices ETC like your PC, but the phone is not working so hard.
BT is still "ON" but not discoverable.

I would guess without doing research that this is wrong pachy. It makes no sense for BT to work by sending out a dumb signal to announce presence when there might be no device nearby to pick it up. Rather, if BT is ON (discoverable or not) then the device simply sits there with the receiver turned on (minimum power - is just waiting to intercept a signal). When it receives that signal from another device, it does one of two things: IF discoverable, it sends out a unidirectional signal announcing it's presence back, thus the other device 'finds' it. If it is not set to discoverable, it does not send out the signal, thus other unpaired devices will not find it.

Thus the only increased use of power in discoverable mode is if devices do a BT search in close proximity to it. Thus it will be sending out the odd return signal in expected normal use - perhaps if hundreds of searches are made close to you throughout the day, this may affect battery life a little - but if only a few are made as normal, then you shouldn't notice any difference whatsover.

I disagree with the bad battery life claims..

It's been nothing less than stella for me and Im a heavy P900 user.

Check your backlight settings, screensaver settings etc.. they have a big effect on battery life. I dont use the screensaver, just go straight to no backlight after a minute. Works fine for me.

mavrick. i agree with shorty. the life of the battery is greatly reduced with the screen saver. especially if you use an animatied gif saver.

also, did you load a task manager on the phone? i f not, the applications don't close automatically. therefore your system resources are running all of the apps you have used during your session.

i loaded sman onto my phone with flip close task flush. i greatly improved the battery life.

If u turn off BT, u save at least 15% of ur battery life. The argument about the data sheet is as old as the gsm networks.if u'd b a bit interested and open-minded,u'd read and know that data sheet is only informative and lab-tested.Seems logical2me to have the lab tests cuz u can't know where one uses the phone and under what conditions. I don't beleive BT has that much of an impact on battery life - I think it's negligable. It's certainly never been as much as 15% for me...
