I've had my P800 now for months but have never got around to finding out why Opera works fine when connected in the cradle, but when out roaming it won't load up any pages using the GPRS connection.

Why is this?

I'm on Vodafone in the UK.

I'm assuming your computer is connected to the internet (always or everytime you use the P800 w/ the cradle =)

When your P800 is connected to the cradle, it first uses the computer's internet connection before activating its own GPRS thus you can use Opera to browse through web sites w/o any problems. However, once it uses its GRPS and if your GPRS settings only connection through a WAP gateway then Opera will not be able to open web sites (Opera is not capable of browsing through a WAP gateway). You'll have to call up Vodafone to know what settings will work w/ Opera but this usually comes w/ an extra cost unless your Vodafone plan already covers this

When its connected to the computer its using the computers existing internet connection and it can browse pages fine.

Its just when Im handsfree. I also can't check my e-mail, despite entering my settings it doesn't download any messages... the phone looks like its doing something but never returns anything.

What do I ask for when I ring Vodafone?

yep yep. Related to your problem with Opera not being to surf web sites.

That is a good question You'll be asking tech support and I'm not prepared to say that all techie personnel would be able to get what you want. Just say that you need FULL internet browsing capabilities (able to surf regular web sites and not just WAP sites and download emails as you have already mentioned) and your current settings doesn't allow you to do so.

In my case, we only need to send a SMS to particular number indicating a keyword and the model of our phone and the network sent me the settings via SMS which the P800 should use to surf WAP and/or regular sites.

Well I phoned Vodafone Customer support and explained the situation. The girl on the other end didn't seem to 100% grasp what I was saying, so she said she had to call up some technical files on her computer.

I reffered to the fact I needed FULL internet access, not just WAP, as I was unable to use the Opera browser or access my e-mail accounts when I put the settings in.

She instead told me that I should create a vodafone.net e-mail account and merge my existing e-mail with them. But from looking at that its just a web based e-mail client that you use via WAP on your phone.

She then said Internet was enabled on my account and sent me these settings via e-mail:

1. Click on All on the main menu and then Tools from the pop-down list.

2. Click on Control panel from the list of applications.

3. At the bottom of the Control panel, click on the Connections tab.

4. Click on Internet accounts from the list.

5. Click on the New button.

6. In the Account name field enter Vodafone GPRS Web, ensure Connection type is GPRS (if not click on the arrow in the field to select it).

7. Click on Advanced.

8. Click on the white box to set User name and password required.

9. In the User name field enter web.

10. In the Password field enter web.

11. In the Address field enter internet.

12. Click on Done to close the Advanced settings.

13. If you want this GPRS setting to be your preferred method of accessing data, click on the arrow of the Preferred box and select Vodafone GPRS Web.

14. Click on Done to save this setting.

Using these settings in Opera it will say 'Connected' but then won't do anything at all, and no data is sent or exchanged under the GPRS info.

Im really lost now. Is it my fault? Is my account fully enabled? Was this girl on the other end clueless to my problem?
