For those who wants to know : this is the email I got back from SE.
I asked them what they recommend for the first battery charging.
It is dutch, but they say . " The first time you charging the battery : the best you can do is to charge it for 24 hours !! Then the first 10 times, wait until it's complete empty before recharging !!
I asked him why it is not in the manual and he said it will be there in the "new manuals"
When it comes from SE themselves I must believe it, isn't it ?
Greetings

How can you charger the phone for 24 hours?
When I first got the P900 I put in on charge and did the set up wizard and then, switched off. The red light came on and then after about 4 hours it turned green and the icon stopped flickering on the screen - so surely that means it isn't charging anymore?

complete horse pucky.
This is a lithium polymer battery. It does not have a memory, so it only needs to be charged once and you're all set.
All you need to make sure, for long battery life, is that you don't leave the battery in a discharged state for a long period of time.

It's definitely overkill, but it does make some sense. Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries are much better than NiMH batteries (the dreaded ones with the memory effect). However, they do suffer from a reduction in quality when not charged properly.
The accepted normal way to charge the first time is to make sure that the battery is at least fully charged before you start drawing a current from it. The 24 hours is a little over the top, but it certainly doesn't hurt (and may help a tiny amount). Charge it as long as you can after it is full, before the urge to play with your toy overcomes you!
Then, the accepted norm is to do a couple of full discharges so that the power management unit 'learns' the battery (batteries actually vary quite a lot).
Once you have a nicely conditioned battery, at all costs
try to avoid discharging completely. Each complete discharge will slightly reduce the available capacity - some batteries show this effect more than others, but I think the SE batteries are fairly good quality (may just be wishful thinking!

)
The best time to recharge your battery is between 40% and 60% capacity (balancing the discharge and unnessary recharge cycles).
If you follow these simple steps, you will find that you will get more battery life, first of all, and then longer usable life from the battery.
