Ok, I'm finally about to get a new touch screen phone...

As I was thrilled by the T68i, I will be getting a Sony Ericsson phone.

Is it worth twice the price the P900?
Correct me if I'm wrong

Both use the same OS
Both Support MPEG4,MP3

Is really the only difference the screen colors and the video recording? Because if it is so, isn't P800 the best phone on market compared to its price?

Being the owner of both, I have to say ........... maybe. It rather depends how much more the 900 costs. If it's significantly more, it's probably not worth it. The only area where capabilities have been significantly enhanced (not just tweaked) is in watching movies - the 900 is much smoother in playback, and the screen far better. If you want a demo of this, go into a shop and ask them to playback the golf clip that the phone has on it. Other improvements are minor, and don't actually change what you can do with the phone.

Actually the P900's launch price is cheaper than the P800's was.
The differences between the phones are mainly cosmetic; a better color screen, communicorder that records images and sound, different design and the P900 is slimmer.
Functionality is the same but now instead of taking your phone to the shop for a firmware update you can do it at home, theoretically at least. I can't get get the phone to connect to my PC.
Their shortcomings are the same and haven't been addressed; no bluetooth handsfree profile, no fax support, unable to edit word, excel...

I believe that what could be considered as a disadvantage is only the MIDP 2.0 the P900 offers in comparison to the MIDP1.0 the P800 offers.

But what is it you can do with ver2.0 that you can't do with ver1.0?

And as we talk about OS phones, isn't MIDP a part of the "SOFTWARE" the phone consists of, or part of its hardware chips? Is it possible to update the phone software from this of the P800 to that of the P900? (More or less the software update we all witnessed between T68 and T68i)

Finally, what about the UI? Is the setups and menus different between the two models?

If I get a P800 will I notice any differences with P900 on the navigation menus, calendar, contact lists, browser UI and capabilities etc...??????

Well the P800 uses UIQ 2.0 while the P900 has 2.1 with a nicer look and Themes.
As for MP3, P800 can play some not all but cannot use them for ring/message tones which the P900 can

well since you've never used one before go for the newest model!

might as well since you didn't spend a fortune the first time..if you were upgrading i would say it's not worth it unless you're getting an incredible resell value

I've always thought that anyone that needed convining to purchase a phone or anything in that matter more likely will not buy one at all... There's a plethera of material on this board to allow someone to make up their minds in less then 15 min... Moreoever, I think board members will always support the phone they carry.. So this is a bad place to go and have people make your decisions for you.. At least that is the type of response you will get. Heck they still have Nokia 3650 threads... I peaked my head in one once and you'd swear they are carrying on about the messiah... A mobile phone is a tool for most, but a toy for some... Whatever your needs are just buy it on that principle.. Your question is has become a cliche... However, I'm betting you already knew what you'd prefer from the get-go so JUST DO IT ALREADY..
