After spending a couple of hours looking for and trying some of the software in the Personal Finance area , i was quite disappointed to see there there isnt a really good one out there. On top of that , there are 2-3 to choose from and thats it. I was thinking that this might be something many people would use their smartphones for but maybe i was wrong.

The ones that came close were Money from MasterSoft and Hand Wallet but they also were lacking in some areas and the websites were really bad in support.

Does anyone have any experience / recommendations ?

Handy Expense only focusses on travelling expenses. I need something a little more details that also accounts for income , bank accounts, credit card charges etc.

That said , the desktop app that works with Handy expense is great, i wish they had a more advanced finance manager.

It's hard to answer your question unless you are specific about what functionality you need. For example, my own freeware Jabp program doesn't have a fancy UI (not a priority for me) but does have things that I need such as:

* Unlimited accounts, categories, standing orders
* Multi-currency
* Graphs of top expenses, account balance over time, future balance predictions
* Investments: track value of shares etc
* Net worth calculations
* Import from and export to Quicken and Microsoft Money
* Archive old entries

I also was fed up with changing personal finance programs every time I changed my PDA. So I wrote Jabp to run out-of-the-box on Windows, Unix, Linux, Pocket PC, Sharp Zaurus, P800, P900, Nokia Communicator, Psion netBook and any other hardware with support for pJava. None of this stuff might be useful to you, but it is to me. So I made it freeware in case anyone else wanted to use the program. To date, there have been around 30,000 downloads from various websites.

If you can find another program that suits you better - go ahead and use it. That's the beauty of freeware

Best regards,
Malcolm

I've been waiting for same thing since owning my P800 over a ywar ago & now the P900. Want something like Psion Money that was available for the 5mx series machines.

I even contacted a few software houses but no real interest.

I also find Money from MasterSoft not suitable & jABP to simple.

Still waiting.

Curious. I'd be interested to know in what way Jabp is too simple. Most feedback I've had so far is that it is not simple enough - ie. too many options and not "pretty" enough.

I tried JABP and i must say its pretty much what i need . I have tried the Java runtime directly on my desktop and now i am about to install it on the phone. Do you plan to release a UIQ 2.1 version anytime ?

Also i need to put in repeat trasactions automatically. This was also the reason i didnt use the commercial ones. I want a transaction to appear every month without me having to enter it, i know there is a regular option in Jabp but i want it done automatically. Can you help me there ?

thanks.

Hi Malc

I contacted you a while back with many "enhancement points", one of which you implemented ( the max & min values on the future balance graph).

Keep an eye out for you making new revisions but not seen any for a while.

Biggish issue for me is still the lack of a link between accounts such as a transfer from a current account to a VISA account. If you want to alter it latter you have to remember to alter entries in both accounts instead of them being linked.

I'll have to dig out the old email to see what I posted.

Don't get me wrong, I still think it is currently best available for P800/P900 and appreciate the effort you have put into it.
