I got my phone on Thursday from an O2 shop, and my firmware version is the latest approved version according to SE's up-date page.

I got mine from Carphone Warehouse's online shop as an upgrade on O2. It arrived Friday, and I updated the firmware via the SE website the next day (yes it needed an update, yes it accepted the update).
One question, my phone (although bought as an O2 contract upgrade) does not have any 02 logos anywhere (either before or after the update). The last phone I had from O2 (direct, not from CPW) was a T68i about a year ago, and that had an O2 screen on turn-on and shutdown.
Do the ones bought in the O2 shops have logos?

@ bowlhead2000
The one you got from CPW is a sim free P900 m8 no operator branding what so ever

Lucky!!
Only direct from o2 will you get some sort of branding.
I'm gonna take my o2 P900 to a

service centre tomz and ask them to re-flash to a sim free fw , no more o2 startup/shutdowns
Noticed on o2 P900 the ringtone 'two princess' is not there or on cd ???

So only the ones direct from O2 have branding, but even then they aren't locked. Groooovy baby.
Now I've upgraded I ordered an unlocking cable to unlock my T68 (also O2 branded), but then I noticed it wasn't actually locked (!). So that order's getting cancelled...
