are there a desktop charger that can charge the battery without the phone ??

Yes there is one. I bought my one from eBay. It has a slot for a battery and can also charge a Pxxx. It uses the standard battery charger that comes with the Pxxx for power. The problem is it takes at least twice as long, even if you are charging one battery. Also I found, with the one I have, the SE connector on the charger does fit tightly with the socket on the desktop charger and therefore the connection can be broken momentarily if you move the desktop charger.
