> upgrade f/w of t610 to t630 f/w
Bookmark topic
is this possible that SE could turn the f/w of the t610 into a similar type to the t630 with the My friends option instead of shortcuts or image enlargement software
or if anyone could find a 'cracked' way of doing it?
just wondering

Yes

could do that but they most probably wont. After the T68 --> T68i upgrade

realised that they just can't keep upgrading peoples phones like that. Pity for us but good for

. And I wouldn't recommend a cracked software.

Every time a new phone comes out from

this question gets asked, and apart from the T68-T68i upgrade it has never happened, and there was very good reason for that upgrade to occur.
So based on that I doubt this will happen in the T610-T630 case.
Although I have seen hacked firmware in other brands, and mostly quite old models, I haven't seen anything done to

phones but perhaps others have?

The fact is that a T610 could easily be updated with the small extras of the T630, such as the higher camera resolution of the T630 and so on, but then, would SonyEricsson have any other excuse for the production of the T630? Other than the looks, no. So there you have a strong support for a 'NO' answer on your 'upgrading' question.
PS. The T610 is build on hardware that could be used to do so much more than your phone already does.
PS.2 Trust me, this is the classic story of the mobiles. The manufacturers could if they wanted, to take advantage of the hardware that the past models have and with the 'injection' of a firmware update make them into whole new phones, with great new futures. But then, would there be money into it?...

the t630 cam is actually the same as the t610, but the t630 contains software to increase image
size to VGA without improving the quality. there are other commercially available, and probably free/shareware programs, which will do this on a PC.
the only other "real" difference would be the addition of the My Friends chat functionality, which IMHO is really only a gimmick.
i don't really think that such a firmware upgrade would be worthwhile, although i think i remember somewhere on
www.mobile-review.com where Eldar said that

would add 630 functionality to the 610 and z6 in future firmware revisions (perhaps for a fee?)
on the other hand, hardware upgrade for the 610 screen would be really useful

If you own a T610 would you upgrade to a T630 to get those insignificant extra features? Most probably not. If you needed a new phone you would get the T630 over the T610. The cost to manufacture the T630 cant be much more than a T610.
The chance of a T610 owner upgrading to a T630 is so slim that I dont see how SE improving the T610 by flashing with T630 firmware hurts the company. It lets existing users get a few more months/years out of their current phone, and makes the company look good in the eyes of its customers.
Why did they release the T630 anyway

The biggest change of the T630 over the T610 is probably the TFT screen.
Having used the T610 since the week it came out, I got the Z600 simply because of the much better screen, but since I don't really like the clam phones I most definitly will be swapping the T610 and Z600 for T630's

Well IMHO, SE should only provide software upgrades which improve the operation and fix any bugs of the features which were promised on the phone which the customer bought.
They shouldn't go around adding extra features for free, although once in a while it would be nice!
But seeing as the internals of both the 610 and 630 are obviously very similar (the same?) i think SE would benefit from offering an upgrade at some charge.

yeah i see your point it was kinda obvious that SE would prob get no profit out of updating the t610.
but what surprised me that a few of my mates who were after new phones would still ather get the t610 over the t630. mainly because they like its design and stuff better than the t630. dunno if anyone else finds this with other people.
can't see what feature would ever make me wanna get a new phone, as far as i'm concerend it's gonna be a phone for life till i can afford a 3G phone which i prob ownt need anyway.

I think SE probably will have an update f/w for T610 as what they have done with T68m, coz we still in the disadvantage of not having the TFT screen :-)
