Hi,

I have a sony clie T-675 and a t68i but I wanna buy a new phone en a new pda with os 5.0 or higher.
Now i have seen the P900 i'm not sure anymore, maybee it's better to buy a P900 instead of a T610 and a NX 80.
Is there anybody who went from pda +mobile phone till the P900 and can you tell me then the pro's en con's from the P900 compared with a pda. I know already that the P900 isn't working on Palm OS so...

I went from a Sony Clie PDA + phone to a P800 and I'm glad I did. I've never really liked PalmOS, but the main benefit, after only having to carry one item, is the integration of the phone/GPRS and the PDA features.

Being able to browse the web, receive e-mails and update information (such as weather and currencies in WorldMate) without any additional hardware, is extremely convenient.

Of course seeing as this is a P800/P900 forum, you're likely to find that the people here found these phones do offer what they wanted over a PDA + phone combo. That's why they're on this board.

I went from NR70, which is smaller than the NX80/73, plus Nokia 6310i/Ericsson T39 to a P800 an then to a P900. I found the NR70 to be too large to carry. The screen is lovely and apps like Agendus and Doc to Go are good. But Palm 4.1 file management of apps on the MS is awful. The P900 has proper multi-tasking and memory management and you don't lose your data if your battery runs down (can you change batteries on the NX80/73?). I wanted a phone centric PDA, which a P900 is. And now that there is one keyboard available (Pocketop) and another on the way (Thinkoutside) and we have QuickOffice available I don't feel I miss the NR70 at all.

Well, I haven't really switched form a pda and phone to the P900, (although I did carry a Psion Series 5 and a likkel nokia 8210 around with me for a while!, but found it too impractical to lug around with me wherever I went)

I think what is important to mention though is that whilst the P900 is a competant PDA, it is first and foremost a phone IMO (some other devices are more PDA, with the phone sticky taped to the back as an afterthought), the inclusion of the keypad is perhaps the symbol of this (though you can take it off of course:-))...

On this forum, as mentioned you will of course find favourable reports for the P900 (since most of us have spent money on it, so it MUST be good!), that is partly because it is such a good, integrated device, that is able to replace multiple devices... I am not a heavy user of the PDA function yet, though I do like to be able to send emails and keep a good calendar, for which the p900 is great...

Just to throw some spanners in the works... if you "like" or are used to PalmOS, then have you seen the Handspring Treo 600, no-one on here will like it, but then the Palm forums probably love it... same for the XDA 2, which runs Pocket Windows (or whatever it is called these days!)...

I spent much time deliberating which device was best for me, but this was narrowed down to the P900 or XDA 2, and i just found the p900 way more practical and "carryable" (if that is a word)... though some heavy users of a PDA may prefer the XDA, as did some on this forum, in a topic mentioned quite some time ago...

I have been using a PDA since the Palm M500 (which I dropped in the bath ; incidentally they don't float). Replaced with the M515 and after getting fed up with th OS which decided that if it lost your entire contacts/calendar would then assume that you wnted the same deleting from your copy on the PC.

So I moved to an iPAQ 3970 and now run a 2210.

To get to the point, I am running both as the connectivity of the iPAQ is what I need but find that I now get my email via the P900.

So, IMHO I wouldn't go near a Palm OS machine with a 10 foot plastic barge pole - yes the iPAQ has its shortcomings, but I don't regret getting the P900 as its partner.

I found the first palm pilot had just what I wanted, but moved up models because of the display. I had a T68 and palm 515 before the p900.

I was also hesitant about the p900 because it wasn't palm based, but my shopping list had BT as a must so I opted for the p900. I am pretty pleased with it, apart from two things which are not as good as previous setup. 1. The blimmin BT headset profile is not there and 2. I haven't managed to get the vpn working yet. I am hoping SE will see the light with 1 and produce a firmware update and as for 2 that is a compatability problem with work which I will solve.

My palm now stays at home, it was a bit of a pain to migrate, had to install outlook and sync the palm to that (make sure your sim card and phone book are organised before) and then sync phone to outlook. I had to beam each recurring calander entry to the phone which took me a bit of time.

conclusion, no regrets on making the move and I always now have information to hand as I always carry a mobile. hmmm must think of a backup plan, because if it gets stolen or lost I will be in trouble until it gets replaced.

I used the P800 before, and now using a Pocket PC phone (not the XDA2 but the ETEN P300... which is smaller).

The Pocket PC is a great PDA... full windows compatiblity from outlook to office documents. Plus the applications are better IMO (more like PC apps). Downside: minimal phone features (making calls, sms, hands free... the basics), and high power consumption.

The P800/P900 is a good combination (phone with decent PDA functions).

Here's my ranking for different smartphone operating systems:

For the phone person...
1) Symbian
2) PPC 2003 Phone Ed / Palm

For the PDA person...
1) PPC 2003 Phone Ed
2) Symbian
3) Palm

If you're not sure...
1) Symbian
2) PPC 2003 Phone Ed
3) Palm

I'm a PDA person.

Try avoiding the MS Smartphone OS (like the Orange SPV). It's not really a PDA OS and pretty hard to use.

Nv used the P900. I m now using P800 n a Sony Clie NZ90 both @ the same time! To answer ur question, hv to address the issue of what r ur primary needs. I would say the P900 wud b a good choice if u want a all in one combo, with basic use of PIM functions, n do not hv the need of WiFi This message was posted from a P800

For me it's a no-brainer. It's like dressing for outdoor winter activities - put on many layers so you can remove them individually if you get hot.

I use a T610 and a Palm Tungsten. When I work I bring both (and sometimes even my Palm keyboard), off-work (especially when going out) I only bring the T610 and still have the address book, calendar and email capabilities, albeit a bit reduced compared to the Palm or a P[8|9]00.
