I currently have a T300 and while I love it, there is one thing that I would change. The message alert tone! I nearly always miss those quick couple of beeps when a new message comes in.

I was thinking of upgrading to a T610 or Z600 and was playing around with the demos on the Sony Ericsson website, and noticed that there are about six different sms alert tones to chose from on those phones. Unfortunately the demo would not let me play them How do they compare to the standard T300 beeps? Are they louder, longer, easier to hear, etc.?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a T610 and in my opinion, the message alert tones aren't that bad. Unfortunately, like the ringtones, they are not very loud. I can hear them fine when indoors even with the phone in my jeans pocket, but outside in heavy traffic, they're all very easy to miss. Of course, that's one of the reasons for having vibrating alerts

My biggest gripe about the message alert tones on T610 is that you can't (I don't think so, anyway) download new ones! When selecting an alert tone, the menu gives a choice of several in-built tones, you can't select a tone from the 'my sounds' folder like you can for ringtones and alarm tones.

Everyone, am i right about this or am i doing something wrong?

You are right - unfortunately you cannot download new SMS alerts for the T610.

Hmm, seems most manufacturers always leave out some kind of feature that should logically be in there Truth be told I don’t think too much of the vibrating alert on the T300 either It’s a shame though because I receive much more by text than I do by voice, so a loud text alert would be much more useful for me.

I think I’ll still upgrade though, if only for Bluetooth! All I have to do now is persuade myself to part with the £, which will be a fun task
