> P900 writting input question
Bookmark topic
I'm thinking of getting a P900 in the new year but I'm a bit unsure about the handwritting input system.
I've previously owned a MS handheld & currently have a Sony Clie (SJ33). I much prefered the handwritting recognition on the MS handheld to the strict Palm system on the Clie.
My question is what is the handwritting recognition on the P900 like?
I managed to have a very quick go on a demo version over the weekend but the salesman wouldn't let me remove the transparent plastic so it was a bit hard to test it.
Does it just work on a letter for letter basis (so I'd type T-E-S-T) or can I write whole words (TEST)?
Cheers.

Cool.
Another couple of questions.
Is it similar to the palm in that you have to write letters in certain ways & can't take the stylus of the screen (so you don't dot an 'i' or cross a 't')?
Also do you have to write in upper or lower case?
The one thing that bugs me about my Clie is having to use the crazy writting system. Altho I'm getting the hang of it I still keep screwing up certain letters.

numbers above the arrow on screen, capitals level with it, lower case below the line.
You just right the letters more or less like you would on a piece of paper.

I haven't had a palm or similar before, just used other people's, and only a bit. The P900 is really pretty good for one-letter-at-a-time entry - you can write virtually normally. There are a few quirks and you have to learn things like full stops, commas, apostrophes - but a few technophobe friends got on ok for a couple of test texts, were quite impressed.
As long as you get the general shape of the letter it's pretty forgiving. That said, when you are doing a lot of writing and start to get sloppy, it can be annoying not to be able to go right into the next letter- you have to stop and come off and then start the next one.
Having said all this, if you have the eyesight and a good aim, it can be a great deal quicker to use the virtual keyboard. It's less fun, and masks half the screen but thats not usually a really big deal.
Try writing qwertyuiop using the Jot function and then on the virtual keyboard. Even with actual English words, the VK is going to be a good deal faster - you are just hitting 5 dots to make a word rather than writing 5 letters!

p900 uses cis jot pro a great handwriting text if youactuall bother to read the p900 internal hand writing help menu you will be writing with ease and doing aprostphes fullstops accents and pound signs with ease. Just dont be put off and stick to it in a couple of days you will find it better than button bashing.
