It's not just the software, it's all the pissing around with upgrades on Orange that you don't get with any other operator.

Because their firmware is specific to them, it makes it so much more difficult to upgrade - and - they lock their handsets too ......

As it happens .........NO

I also forgot to say that I doubt if Orange will let P900 owners use the SE auto online updates.

I bought a P800 on Orange 9 months ago, never again. You wouldn't beleive the problems I've had with them. Even after my 12 months is up, I'll still have to get the handset unlocked to use with another network.

BASTARDS !!!!!

I am with Orange, and the software (what there is of it) isn't really all that bad...

When people moan about the startup screens and a 65mm(ish) square logo on the front, I sometimes wonder if they are serious!

This will be my second Orange phone, and I would probably buy again, but to be honest I am more concerned in the deal I get and whether the services they provide are cost effective for me... And before someone says something, I have tried T-Mobile which totally did not work in my area, vodafone which was OK, though you also get the obligatory branding with them, and also O2 which do seem to be the more liberal out of the providers with regard to software/markings...

Perhaps my lack of complaint lies in the fact that I do not plan to deal in the phones, whilst I doubt that I will use another sim card in it... though it is reported that they will unlock the phone after the 12 months for a small fee if asked...

All in all, i suppose it depends upon what you hope to do with whatever phone you have... if you sell them regularly, then the logo and locking is of importance i suppose since you don't know the preferred network of the buyer, and if you like to use more than one network, then it may be an issue... but those who buy on Orange/Vodafone or whatever, and then moan about not being able to use another sim card, which they planned would replace Orange/Vodafone, should just wait and get a phone on their preferred network to start with...

At the end of the day, why should Orange sell and subsidise phone prices so that buyers can take advantage of this and then route their call charges to another service provider... ?

I didn't buy my phone to use with another operator. It was bought from Orange on an Orange £30 per month contract.

I'm not moaning about the startup videos etc, or the square, it's just the whole Orange thing for me.

1 - Firmware upgrades
What a nightmare. Yes you can, no you can't, yes you can - it depended what colour of underpants the person you were talking to had on. No such problems with Voda / O2

2 - Customer Service
Finding someone in the technical department who knew what a P800 was would have been a start

3 - No GPRS on holiday
They ASSURED me it would work, and guess what, it didn't.

4 - Bad coverage in Aberdeen - you must be bloody lucky where you are

5 - Billing
Charging for calls with inclusive time left, charging for SMS within the "free" period, and that's just the start .....

I know almost everyone has problems with their operator, but after 10 trouble free years with Vodafone, Orange have shown me just how really bad a service companies can give.

Orange training users on their phones, don't make me laugh. I've yet to talk to someone in an Orange shop who knows what day of the week it is........honestly

Just my humble opinions / experiences.

P.S. Everyone has a go at "the link" - I found they were by far the best informed on Smartphones, so they got the sale..

I thought Voda was OK but am quite happy with Orange. Only issue as mentioned above is firmware upgrades but at the moment I do not have a single issue with the phone. It does all I need and never fails.

moving from orange to t mobile this year

t mobile suck in comparison to orange

Orange answer the phone within minutes T mobile take for ever to get through to some one they dont seem to havea direct link to an operator i always have to select the i want to report my phone stolen prompt to talk to any one!

Being on O2 with my other handsets i can also say O2 take for ever to answer the flipping call you'd excpect more consdering you have to pay for the god damn call! unlike t mobile and orange as its free!

now p900 orange customisation is evil they should not lock the phone or brand it as its the customers phone not theirs. true genneral public dont give a toss but when i spend a chunk of change on a handset it needs to be gravy!

good to see CPW providing f/w upgrade to my orange p900 and good to see dumb yank not complaining when he opened his sim free p900 box to see orange branded clips and flips staring at him.

What we seem to have here is good example of the geographical differences between Scotlnd & the south (OK not all your problems as Orange cust sev were a bit P800 ignorant at the start) but i live in south east UK & The Link are really rubbish. Orangee signal is fantastic, Voda is crap, but when i visit the highlands or Edinborough (Was up there a month ago) i have to take a non Orange sim with me.

Orange software is NO different on P900 (Startup screens are anoying but not a MASSIVE effect on the phones use are they.it costs about £5 to £10 to unlock an Orange phone & i only EVER use a SE service center for firmware upgrades & spares, aftter the first firmware uupgrade i will be aable to use the online service, because yes its correct Orange are worried about people using it as a quick way to gett rid of the branding. Orange customeer services are available 24hours a day, correct me if i'm wrong but o2/Voda are all tucked up in bed at night
