I just downloaded this program to test out the Java access to WAP.

http://mobil.emule-project.net/

I got to the connection test, and then my Z600 asks me if I want to allow web access to the program, and I go yes, and then it doesn't work from there on... Any ideas?

java on z600, like t610, operates in what call a "sandbox environment". what this means is that the java engine has little or no access to handset functions such as bluetooth, IR, etc. this is one of the reasons why z600/t610 can't be used as a tv remote control (unlike many nokias and all symbian phones).

however, the white paper says that the java implementation supports over the air, and has net access permissions so i'm not sure. perhaps the particular program is not fully compatible with z600?

anyone else have any ideas?

I've tried similar things, and had the same result

If you are using GPRS, you might need to use a Data Account with APN=internet (can be something else depending on your provider), instead of APN=wap. (different charges may or may not apply)
