I think the max size is ok. Since the phone reduces the size. On my 310 the full screen size looks gr8. In ur case 640.480

The max size is 208x197. Any bigger than that will make the P900 rescale de image.
I use 208x189 for my contact pics since this is the size of the screen with the flip closed. This way I can use any contact pic to be a brackgound in FC mode without any rescaling. Remember that in FC mode the size off the screen is 208x208 but you have to take into account the size of the status bar on the top.
