My friend is thinking of having a Z600, but he wants it on vodafone (god knows why). Anyway what I would like to know is what exactly is the vodafone customization? I have seen and read various threads about it saying it is evil and the worst thing ever invented but what excatly do they do to your phone? I had a T610 on orange and they do customize two icons but personaly I don't think they are too bad, but I have heard that vodafone icons are awful and you can't really use other themes because the voda icons ruin them and make them look tacky. If anyone has any pictures or could describe what hte features are and if he should go ahead with buying his z600 on voda and if the customisations will ruin the phone and stop him being able to use custom themes made by other people. the shortcuts I could overcome tho... but the desktop icons make that you'll have to use custommade themes as most themes availbale on the net are based on the standard
desktop icons.
If you make your own themes there won't be much of a problem I would think tho.
It's just that the Voda branding is not exactly my taste

Is there anythin else wrong with having it on vodafone. And dave, im gettin it on vodafone cos all my family is, and it makes it less awkward, and plus they are doin a mint deal! anyway, if there is anythin else rong with a vodafone live! z600, just say, cheers!

@Vlammetje - with the icons how different are they? For example if you saw a theme you liked could you download it then alter it slightly to suit the voda icons? Or do the themes have to be like specialy made to suit the voda icons?

well the thing is that most ppl that make themes (myself included) use a template with preste desk top icons on it so they can put more accent on the icons.
Of course if your phone has different icons than the ones preset on the theme, you can still load it on your phone, but you'll see black spaces anywhere where your icons do not match the preset ones.
For example for a t610 theme you'd use this one
pasted over your actual picture (the white is deleted so you can highlight the icons)
Of course you'd be able to avoid this when you make a theme WITHOUT any template and your phone will just insert it's own icons once the theme is loaded.
Like I said it's not a problem, you just need to remember that you'd best make your own themes, coz the ones available for downlaod on the net are very likely to all have a template like this one.
Or you could proceed and make a template ike this which has your own phones icons on it
Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Ok thanx, so very basicaly all you have to do is make your own themes instead then. How much space to voda waste aswell? On my orange T610 theres some undesirble cheese pictures which take about a 100 or so kb's are there too many voda pictures?

) and I have not yet found an item which could not be deleted. However i guess much depends on the Vodafone software. Quite frankly I have not heard anybody about removing the branding, whether it worked or didn't. I even put up the infamous Esato search but nothing came up.

Ok thanx, I had a shot at the search aswell before I started the thread. I didn't have much joy either, the majority of the time it seems to be down aswell due to high usage or something.

cheers ppl (ive just got home from work so this will make no sense at all!) so all i need to do is make my own themes, i ahv no problem with that! its a sacrifice i hav to mkae, cos vodafone is giving me 150 free txts a month if i get this fone, so im satisfied, anyway, cheers
