> USB IrDA adapter wiring schematic?
Bookmark topic
hey there, I have a 2 way IR unit and an extra USB cable laying around. does anyone happen to know what is invodved with making my own IR port? nowhere around here has them, and I can only get them mail order from the states. just wondering if it was just a matter of some diodes or if there was some chipsets involved?

My guess is it's a bit more complecated then that. You will at the very least need a USB interface and a USB to serial converter, not to mention that you would have to write your own Windows driver for the device...

The question has been asked before, and I posted an answer. Basically a link to some schematic which I don't have anymore. There are only a few IR emitter/chip types readily available. If it's one of those used by the major manufacturers, you can use their drivers.
So, one word: search
Oh... you want USB... that's definitly a proprietary chip involved. The schematic was for serial.
You can buy USB IR adapters online at tigerdirect.ca , or computer stores in Toronto's computer district
