> mp4 quality - Hole in One sample video
Bookmark topic
Hi all
Does anyone know how SE managed to produce such a high quality mp4?
I've been playing with different permuatitions of settings all day and I can't get anywhere near the clarity that they have!
I'm using Mpegable which I found yesterday and can I say it's an EXCELLENT product that allows you to set the specifications for both the input and output files.
I know the Hole in One sample file has the following specs:-
VIDEO
Video size: 192 x 144
Display size: 192 x 144
Frame rate: 15.03fps
Bitrate: 119kBits/s
AUDIO
Channels: 2
Sample rate: 22050Hz
Sample depth: 16 bit
Bitrate: 48kBits/s
Although I've matched these settings with a good quality input file and I just can't seem to perfect the output.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers
Wayne

Hi there
I was playing around with the settings for almost 3 hours last night!
I used the following settings:
Video/Display size: 192 x 144 @ 119kBits/s
These are the same settings as the SE Golf video.
I ripped from a DVD so the input quality can't be disputed.
The rulst was tons better but still not as clear as the SE version!
I think there must have been some pre/post processing to increase the sharpness/clarity of the video
Also, my video was choppy...like the P900 didn't have enough CPU power.
I'll play some more tonight.
Does anyone know if using QuickTime Pro is likely to produce better results than Mpegable or pvAuthor...Just a thought, seeing as it's the choice of the "proffesionals"
I'm using Mpegable Broadcaster Version 2.1 Build 7 (DEMO)
Cheers

I have used quicktime pro DONT BOTHER half the time it wont read the codecs from avi or mpeg
The.3gp file does not give you very much leeway over the audio so the sound is only soso
When it desides to let you do an mp4 the output was of lesser quality than was given by mpegable even though i had used the SAME SETTINGS
I had played around with pvauthor but i could never seem to get that setting that i was happy with
I have to admit that i use mpegable and have finally got the settings that seem to work for me the only problem is that it means BIG file sizes for example 20 minute family guy vid comes in at 40mb which is 2mb a minute but i can get 3 episodes to a 128mb duo and it only takes 2 minutes to take them off and put some different ones back on so for me this is not a problem and i am more than happy with the picture and sound and i have spare duos for my music
If you are after 1mb per minute conversions i dont think you are going to get much better than you are already getting

Hi all
So, what settings are you using then???
I've found that my P900 struggles with anything above what I already stated (and I didn't see any improvement in the quality above these settings anyhow).
The settings I use give me approximately 1min = 1 mb (approx).
Have you got any sample files uploaded anywhere that I could use to compare?
Another (possibley better idea) would be if you could email your "session" settings from Mpegable?
Cheers

I was going to send the settings but as i have half an hour to kill
Rip the dvd you want to convert
Then convert the ifo and vob files to mpeg1 (352X288)
Once you have your mpeg right click on it and rename it to avi (the reason i do this is because a couple of times i have had lipsync problems with mpeg but after renaming to avi i havent had any problems) A warning box will then show just hit yes
Then run mpegable
1: Select your avi
2: Set the total bitrate to 275 k/bits/sec and audio bitrate to 64 K/bits/sec
3: Open the show advanced settings tab
4: under advanced/reprocessing click on user defined and set target frame to 12.5 and downsize factor to X2 to give you 176X144
5: Under advanced/audio set channels to mono precision to 16 bit and sample rate to 22050 khz
6: Under advanced/encoding set keyframe period to 25 frames image quality to very smooth motion and compression quality to high quality
7: Under advanced/interoperability select simple profile
8: Click on hide advanced
9: Select encode
