> Can I do this to get a cheaper phone?
Bookmark topic
Hi all. I have had my t68 for over a year now, and I would like to upgrade. I would like to stay with my current provider, but the price for an upgrade is much higher then starting a new account with them. I was wondering if I could transfer my number to a virgin mobile (cancelling my original account). and then transfer it back straight away back to my original provider, getting a new phone for cheaper. I have had the same number for over 5 years and would like to keep it. I asked at a carphone warehouse a few times. The 1st time the rep said I could do this. the second time I was told "No you cannot do that because your original provider will know that it is a number that they had just ported over to another network". What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Beninio

Just buy a virgin fone then get it unlocked. No need to transfer accounts. **image**

Oops thanks for the reply stuartdb87, but what I meant to say is that I'm with orange at the moment, and would like to stay on it. Because there is no minimum time with virgin Could I port over my number, and then re-port it back to orange?

or the alternative course: call a sales rep, tell them how outrageous it is for them to not offer decent prices for existing customers whilst they do for new customers. Surely after a yr of being a loyal customer they oughta treat you better. Point out you have seen a better deal on virgin than they can offer you and that you're seriously contemplating going to another provider.
They would usually come up with something

As virgin dont have contracts, you can just buy the fone, unlock it and through away the virgin sim card. Simple

Yeah, but it will work out more expensive that way. Ok I'll try to give an example.
If I want an S.E t610:
Orange Upgrade t610: £59.99
Orange New contract t610: £0.00
Virgin t610: £229.99
So if I just get a t610 from virgin it will cost me £170 MORE then going about just upgrading the phone.
What I was suggesting was buying a simcard from Virgin (no phone) for £9.99, porting my number onto the simcard, then port it back over to Orange whilst getting myself a free T610. So the total process would cost me £9.99.
Would this work?

Sorry but no. You could end your contract and do it that way but you will have to continue to pay the linerental for your current contract, so id stick wit your current contract and wait, a better se fone mite come out.

Thanks for being so persistent stuartdb87. I have been on my current contract over a year. I can cancel my contract anytime now without having to pay anymore. How about now?
ps, does it cost any money to post from your phone?

I was wondering if it cost to post a reply on this forum when using your phone? eg. evertime you post something it cost you the price of the text message.
