Like alot of you i could not get my P900 to sync on my desktop running xp home. well it worked once then failed the next time always saying the USB was connected but not the P900. this is how i solved it.
1. Uninstalled the suit using control panel/add remove software
2. on the CD containing the suit software there is a file called ftdiunin which when run askes you to unplug the USB before it removes some registry things and other junk from the system.
3. re-boot and install the suit without the usb plugged in.
4. plug in the USB. it then installs the drivers
5. plug the phone in and switch on.
6. it then lets you select the phone again like when you first bought the bloody thing. an alls well in sony land.
hay it worked for me so im happy lol

was suffering flaky connection as bad as others (hence finding the threads here), had been having the same connected but not prob
all i did in the end was goto device manager and scan for new hardware, found the phone str8 away
