A new Bluetooth dongle from Swiss manufacturer Smartdata aims to enable MP3 streaming over GPRS connections to compatible appliances with 3.5 mm jacks in early 2004.
Smartdata, a Swiss company, is about to bring a new product to market dubbed the Zukero V3.
The Zukero V3 bridges the gap between phone and home
The product itself is a small dongle terminating in a 3.5 mm jack suitable for connection to a wide range of home audio products. This dongle connects via Bluetooth to a compatible mobile phone (currently Nokia's Series 60 devices, Sony Ericsson's UIQ handhelds and their T68, T39 and T610) and uses its GPRS connection to stream audio content directly to the home appliance.
The phone becomes a kind of modem for the Zukero, and also functions as a remote control, allowing the user to manipulate the content stream directly from the handset. Installation is truly zero-config, as the dongle transmits its own application to nearby phones upon startup.
Smartdata believe that the Zukero, which is priced below $99 USD and is to be available early in 2004, will offer telecom operators a new source of revenue while providing compulsive content to end users.
