> Joystick add-on for P900??
Bookmark topic
Had my P900 for a few days now and I am very pleased. Everything works great and the having never owned a true PDA before, I'm amazed at how much this can do.
The only slight disappointment is the lack of a decent control system for games in my opinion. The stylus is great for chess and such but for an action game it just doesn't compare to a joystick or thumbpad.
I emailed SE today to ask if there was any plans for a joystick add-on. I wonder if any 3rd parties have considered it? anyone heard anything? I wonder if it's technically possible....connecting to the bottom of the phone would put it in the ideal place and leave plenty of buttons free for other functions, plus give you a more natural grip on the phone.
I'm sure I'll live without it if they don't bring one out, but when you (apparently) have the power of the PS1 under the hood, it seems a shame that the control system is likely to hold the games back. Seeing Doom running is impressive but playing it is tricky with a stylus!
Will post if I hear anything from SE.

The easyest and also cheapest way would be implementing it on the removable flip... you just need to replace the standard flip with a "joystick" one

What about a BT joystick/thumpad device????
I reckon that would be a great idea.

BT Joystick - Great.
We would also need a customisable driver on P8/900 to map the keys - if set at a low system level it may be possible for it to work with any game by 'injecting' key strokes..

Only problem i can see is that se would probably charge 70 gbp for it!

If SE did build it - they could hook it into the firmware -
Who bets it would then become a N-Gage killer.....
At 70gbp - let me think.... with the right sort of games released - you bet.

the question is, would the buttons work if they connected to where the keypad does in flip open mode?

Sure they would - buttons still work in flip open mode anyway.
VRally proves that.
A BT Solution would be more elegant - perhaps a connector to the P8/900 would allow for handed operation, holding both Joystick and Phone - they might even be able to produce 1 standard BT Joystick with several connector adaptors to fit/attach it to other phones, -Any phone with BT and suitable driver........ - Stop dreaming the chances of this is about the same as 256mb Duo for the P8/900....
