Hi guys i have discovered two problems:
Firstly as regards sms's. when i send one witht he flip open it displayes the name of the person you are sending it to after its sent (in the sent items folder). it does not say the name while you are typing the message which is annoying though. most importantly though is that if you send the message with the flip closed it never displays the name of the person you sent it to anywhere. even after it is sent it still only displays the number and not the name!!! any ideas? i have updated my firmware to the latest.
secondly: how much memory do you have available in storage manager? it says i have 8.8MB in use and then 6.8MB available, yet if you add up the lists of applications in the manager the totaol only makes 2427KB! how is there 8.8MB in use? this is straight after i turn it on as well. if i do a format will that help? however if i do format will i loose the cda number and if i do loose it will i be able to do firmware updates over the net as it needs that number?

Re: your memory issue
Can you be a bit more precise please. There are two types of memory: storage for apps and data and "RAM" for running apps. Now the amount of storage space can be established by looking at the (Other Tab) Control Panel / Storage Manager. If you use Sman or Task Manager this will show you the amount of remaining storage space that is used as RAM. Now many people have reported that, for example, even if they have 12mb free storage space only 7.2mb seems to be used for RAM. The theory is that in this version of UIQ Symbian have reserved some storage space as emergency RAM to allow the OS to shutdown / manage apps when RAM is in short supply rather than just crashing as it did on the P800.
By the way a re-format only deletes user storage space not Z: drive where the firmware is stored (ROM). Don't forget to back-up before a format.

Hi,
For the first part. This is a feature of the P900, I guess the programmers didn't think it was that important. This is the case with delivery reports as well, you have to turn it on for each SMS you send.
The second part:
Reformatting will not help. The reason for the 8.8MB is that there are hidden processes and servers running in the background which the default TaskMan does not display. If you install TaskMan from Tracker 3 you can enable show hidden processes. If you add those together you'll have the missing memory. However I have to warn you, don't close system processes since they will cause your phone to crash and you'll have to reboot.

I am not sure that the all missing memory is used by hidden processes as the amount of RAM seems pretty consistent irrespective of the total c: space available. For exmaple, in my case when I had 12.6mb free and then once I had 11.6mb free but the RAM is always between 7.2mb and 7mb.

Forget the previous posts, they mixed up the working memory and the storage memory of the phone.
The memory used in the 'storage manager' shows the amount of storage memory used by normal applications (app's that you can install and uninstall from the phone), besides that there is allot of memory used for storage of data files that you can't reach with the normal file manager.
If you install 'Fileman' that comes with 'tracker' you can see the other files, in C:\documents\ there are also folders like \agenda (where storage of your agenda is kept) \jotter (with your notes) etc. etc.
These folders count for the 'lost' memory on your phone, do not remove them because you need those

I re-read the question you are right in your explanation. The high usage that frozenwaffles has suggests that he/she still has a lot of SE multimedia stuff on the c: drive that could be moved to the d: drive to create more space on the phone (RAM will be limited otherwise).

Thanks for that guys, do you have any idea about the sms name issue? do you have the same problem?
i have also found another issue that has carried over from the P800. if you have a synced PC email account and you use the search function, after you complete the search all the emails appear as though they are from yourself, instead of the actualy person that sent you the email. try and let me know if you get the same results please!
