Read this topic.
I think that Epocware are just a bunch of loosers and their policy is to cheat.
Here you go:
Customer Policy by Epocware

This sucks!

well the link given in the opening post works for me (I am registered and have auto sign-in set on)

it links to a 7 page long thread and you would have to skim through it to get the context of it all so posting a copy here would not be useful.

if you are interested in it just sign up to my-symbian

The thread in question revolves mainly as far as I can see around Epocware saying that all upgrades they release will be free to existing owners and then changing the name slightly to get around this.
Throw in some guy who works for like a sister company defending it to the death and cries of usurper from the gathering mob and thats the jist of it (at least up to page 4 anyway).

I see the point of the original poster however as I'm not yet at the point where I use anything other than free where it's not something I can get all riled up about.

EDIT :

The only post worth putting in here was posted recently by someone calling themselves Ghengis Khent:

"This has been an interesting thread ...

Misha would have been more credible if he had come clean at the beginning of his relationship with an Epocware affiliate rather than having someone else discover it.

I don't work for Epocware in any way, shape or form. However, what I suspect happened is that they realized their free upgrade for life policy in retrospect was too generous, and they should have adopted the free update but not upgrade policy of other vendors. However, instead of coming clean, they engaged in sophistry. Very unfortunate.

What also is very unfortunate is they stranded people who bought HD 4.x days before the release of HD 2004. Most vendors give consideration to customers who bought the "old" product within 30 or whatever days before release of the "new" product. This is very shoddy treatment of customers, especially given their announced free upgrade policy.

The bottom line is honesty is the best policy, and Epocware should be honest and just say they made a mistake and move on, instead of engaging in after the fact dissumulations that does not servie their image well. Epocware also needs to do the right thing by its customer base, particularly those who bought HD4 recently in reliance on the free upgrade policy. Unfortunately, Epocware is acting more like Nixon during Watergate ... and we know how he ended up."

Looks like you've had to force your brain very much to write such a intelligent answer.
