> Removing Orange stuff from P900?
Bookmark topic
I am considering buying an Orange P900 from the UK. I live in Denmark so of course I will have to get it unlocked. But is this phone modified for Orange, and if so, will I be able to do normal firmware updates?
Please help me with any relevant info. Thanks.

A quick serach would have revealed this thread on page 3

Now I have an Orange P900, which I have unlocked, but I have not been able to make use of the latest firmware upgrade yet. Now the issue is that Orange want to ensure that their s/w works okay with the firmware before enabling upgrade - which is okay in principle. But if you leave Orange after the standard 12 month (UK) contract you should not be restricted to having to wait for Orange approved updates. What this means is that if you buy a network linked P900 you are unlikely to have the freedom of someone with a vinilla P900 - unless someone finds a way to flash the customisations on the A: drive. One more option is to visit a friendly SE Service Centre and ask them to remove the customisations and make the Orange P900 into a vinilla one.

Not trying to flame anyone, but this is addressed to the people who answer a post with here is the link to ur answer if u did a quick search.
Do you guys read the post, then go to the search and look up the answer? or do u know that the topic was discussed a while ago.
I am askign this, because i was worried that some people would go to the search option just to tell someone, well the answer has been already discussed, and u darn arse should have used the search!!!
personally when i read a post and dont know the answer, i just dont answer it, and definitely dont go looking it up.

Jah,
Thanks. I have been through that thread already, though, but as I said, I live In Denmark, so if flashing is a problem, it is a REAL problem to me. Can't go to the UK every other week, so I need to get this straight.
1. If I go to an independant SE certified service center and have the P900 flashed just a single time, it's the end of the Orange stuff, right? Is that 100% sure?
2. There is no chance that they won't touch the P900 due to pressure from Orange or technical issues?
3. Only the software differs, not the hardware?
I would hate to be stuck with a preliminary, buggy firmware forever, so thanks for all help.

I knew this had been discussed as I have an Orange P900 and therefore was interested in the information. There was also another thread started by someone who did visit a Orange Service Centre on Oxford St and managed to get his P900 reset to standard settings. I will now look for this I am not sure of the all the details. The person who posted the original thread had a phone number for the Orange shop which I belive will be helpful to sbc_dk and there was a discussion on the implications on the P900 warranty. I hope this answers your question.
In general Esato is a resource and we should try to build-up knowledge based on previous valuable discussions and therefore references to previous posts is important. You will also see that the moderators will stop thread that are just covering old ground.

I suggest you send a PM to DREWMARK to see if he can answer your questions as he has actually done this! I will be thinking about doing this sometime next year.

As i've posted before i have also done this at the oxford shop. in answer to the posters original questions:
the firmware is the original SE release of the software - no Orange stuff at all.
The hardware of the P900 is the same no matter where you buy it from - apart from the bezels which are Orange branded.
Once i upgraded the firmware, i could then use the online update - although i didnt need to as the shop flash had the latest versions- this worked succesfully and without a hitch.
Someone in your own country should be able to flash it with no problem, the phone is locked to Orange UK, but the shop in Oxford St was an official Orange Service Center, so if they can do it then i guess anyone can!
Hope this helps!

Hmm...
I bought the P900 based on the answers I got here, and guess what? It ISN'T possible to remove the Orange firmware and replace it with the standard!
I went to the biggest official SE service center in town. Told them the story and came back after a few hours. They crashed the phone twice trying to update it!
It started OK and the Orange startup sequence was gone, but it wasn't possible to tell where in the process the update crashed, so I had no way of knowing if the P900 would be stable. I went home and tried the Online update...
A manual update was impossible. No way the software and the P900 could communicate. I then went for the Recover option and it worked ok, but now I am back with Orange software!
It's really great to have an expensive phone, that's costumized to a network in another country

I have no idea why you have had them problems i assume the flash at the service center was not carried out properly.
I had an orange p900 which i got flashed at my nearest SE service center in yorkshire. It did crash the first time but the second time id worked ok.
I came home and realised the organiser version was not the lates so i used the online update and it worked like a charm first time. My service center were happy enough to give me non orange branded parts that are placed under the flip so i have a totally unbranded p900.
