[For WAPers]
Much shouting and jumping up and down about the Sharp SH505is (Japanese?)
Quote:
So I arrived here 2 days ago and began an imode contract and finally got my hands on a sh505is.

Just browsing through, I realised how behind Europe is in mobiles. The screen is amazing and is even better than the renouned GX20. screen comparison
The menu is extremely well designed, colourful, animated and feels very complete. Icons, colors, themes are fully customisable.

standby
The external TFT is very impressive as well.
external tft
It is good enough to run various menus and programs .
One of the many nice feature is the tv remote feature which works at 3meters and can be operated with the clamshell open or closed. like so
Over 2500 games and applications can be downloaded from imode in the form of java and flash.
The camera, one of its main features is simply breath taking. Of course with the clamshell open u have so many various features u can play around with. But, the beauty of this is that it works as a normal camera with the clamshell closed. like so and so
with clamshell open
The auto focus function works just like a normal digicam. You can hear the lense mechanically focus and the shutter button, placed on top, like cameras, is double depth to focus and to take.
The result is a high quality camera.
pic taken thru dirty window
Furthermore, the camera came with a 16mb mini sd, which can ofcourse be expanded. pic
Over all, it confirms japan as the undisputed leader in mobile phone technology and just browsing through you can feel that pretty much everything has been thought of, the attention to detail is mind blowing, you can change anything you like, the way you like. Inspite it being so stable and speedy, it is at the same time very flexible due to the use of i-appli which gives it the ability to run various programs. I certainly hope that these phones will hit the european market soon and hard.

I think the best thing is the great quality outer screen and the fact that it becomes the camera viewfinder when phone is closed, that,s a good idea.
Looks damn big though!!! In his hand seems nearly the size of a P800 when it's CLOSED!!!! At least no aerial though

How's the standby / talk times? That's usually ALWAYS been the problem with japanese Imode phones.
I'm sorry if I come off as a bit cynical, but I've always had a hard time understanding the hype the japanese handsets gets. I haven't tried these latest ones, but earlier handsets have had serious UI problems, along with horrid battery performance. I see the point with the megapixel camera and the great screen, but I need to be able to use my phone for two days if I forget/am unable to charge it.
And to be honest, with that size, I'd rather keep my P900, and live with the lower resolution.

great phone, d*mn nice feature and quality pics.. for sure!!
but I-mode?? man that i-mode sucks, i rather have it gsm/gprs
without the operator obligating use for i-mode, which waaaayyy to expensive over here.
let's just wait and see what the new year brings us!
2004 will bring super cool phones, this phone is really ok, if it could play mp3 also then for sure worth keeping an eye on.
