i think i know what he means. in the new firmware, there is one less step from having written an sms to actually sending it.
i don't know which step is gone though as i have hte old version.
mine goes like this after i've written the text:
continue>number (lookup)>send message (send)>then it sends it.
i'm guessing it gets rid of the screen that tells you who you're sending it to after you've looked up their name.

The step to type in the number is gone. It moves straight to the menu where you can select if you want to get the number from your contacts list or if you want to type the number. Before you it moved directly to type number and you had to click on get number to come to the menu where you can select where you want to get the number from.
