For all you users of P800 and the Palm desktop: I'd like to save you the 50 long hours I put into figuring this out. Having used the Palm desktop for several years, I didn't want to change, but P800 only syncs with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus. If you want to keep using your Palm desktop, here's the solution:
1. You need to have Microsoft Outlook installed on your computer.
2. You need to install Chapura Pocket Mirror. This program can probably be found on the installation CD that came with your Palm, but if it isn't, you can buy it at www.chapura.com.
3. You need also to install Switchsync (downloadable at www.livepim.com)

The Chapura Pocket Mirror takes over your Palm sync, forcing it to sync with Microsoft Outlook, rather than the Palm Desktop application. However, Switchsync allows you to sync with both, first with the Palm Desktop and then with Microsoft Outlook.

What drove me nuts was figuring out the process. Sometimes things would end up on the Palm and the Palm desktop, but not on Outlook, etc. What I finally discovered is that both Outlook and the Palm device can sync with the Palm but not with each other. You can set Switchsync to sync your Palm with both Outlook and the Palm desktop, and have it sync with the Palm desktop first. SO, if you put a change in a folder in the Palm desktop, it will sync first to the Palm device, then from the Palm device to Outlook, and all three databases will be identical. HOWEVER, if you put a change in an Outlook folder and sync, that change will only be moved to the Palm handheld but not to the Palm desktop. It will only be moved to the Palm desktop if you sync a second time, during which it moves from the Palm to the Palm Desktop. Get it?

FINALLY, I now put all my information in the Palm desktop and sync it so that it goes to the Palm device and to Outlook during the same sync. THEN, when I sync the Palm 800 using the PC Suite for P800 software that cam with it, the phone syncs with Outlook and all four databases become identical (the P800, the Palm Desktop, the Palm handheld, and Microsoft Outlook).
Whew!

Thanks but you'll need both a palm and a p800 to sync the p800 with palm desktop. Thats not handy now is it? This message was posted from a T68i

Perhaps I didn't make it clear that I want to continue using my Palm and my P800. The Palm has a lot of books and they are easier to read, so I wanted both devices to hold identical information. No reason for anyone to buy a Palm who doesn't have one. This is just a solution for owners of both.
