The phones which seem to be best are: motorola v600 or mpx 200, nokia 6320, se t630.
I don't like the way in which manufacturers announce products but then leave customers 'on hold' for ages. By the time the products are released, then it's time to consider a different phone because something better is promised.
Also, why should a phone first get released in Asia, followed by Europe months later?
Customers should not be unable to buy SIM-free phones. For example, the Motorola mpx 200 is only available from a particular UK carrier. That effectively excludes MANY customers!

Certain phones appear in Asia slightly before in Europe (the T610 did for example it was avlbl in Hong Kong (not all over Asia tho) and Dubai and then Europe and then US.
Releasing a product in a wealthy, tech-minded area before releasing it anywhere else is a rather effective way of selling it, so I don't really see any fault with that strategy. Mind you, we're not talking periods of months here
Then.... I've forgotten what your other gripe was...
Oh yeah! Keeping customes on hold...
Personally once again I'm not bothered. It's good to know what phones will be released around the time you get to upgrade, so you can sorta make a pre-selection based on specs.
Finally..... It's a shame that certain phones will only be done by certain carriers... (think Sharp...) however this is a choice the manufacturer makes. The idea is to set up a product-service combo that is meant to draw customers from other providers/manufacturers all at the same time. I agree that there are many ppl that might not terminate contracts they're happy with just coz a model comes out on another provider, however if you look at the Vodafone Live! sales figures.... that strategy too seems to work quite well
And in these times, there is not a single phone that stays without some serious competition for very long.... in other words if one carrier has the monopoly to a popular model, at least one manufacturer will release a similar model to all carriers
So chill..... relax..... and get over it already.
It's all done in the interest of making sales.

You make some valid points.
However, let's look at some current facts. The SE T630 was released in China on the 20th October 2003. It will be released in America in "Q1 2004". Europe? --- "coming soon". Therefore there may possibly be a gap of 6 months between the mobile's release in China and eg America. Not exactly slightly before!
Meanwhile, for example, although I was considering the T630 instead of the T610, I'm caught between marketing tactics and will probably just switch to the Motorola V600 because I want a good & serious mobile.

I think you may have your dates a little mixed.
The T630/T628 was announced in this
press release on October 20th.
In there it mentions that china will get the T628 in Q4 but even watching a couple of asian forums I never heard anything about it actually being available on the same day, indeed even now there is little mention of the T628 at all.
Its been available in Switzerland for a couple of weeks now and apparantly they have exclusive release in Europe until the new year.

The manufacturers have to release the phones some months before it comes to the shops. Take this as an example: Nokia is realesing a new phone (that actually is good even it is a nokia) in october and it wil come to the stores in desember.
is not realising their newest handsett (that is even bether than the nokia) and they just put it in the stores in desember and dont say a word about it. Who do you think will sell most phones. The nokia that everybody have been waiting for in some months or the
that nowone knows about???? You see they have to or else they would lose customers.

I think you need to remember the difference between 'announce' and 'release' here.
The T630 is said to be in Europe in Q1 2004 (same as america apparently?)
I personally have yet to find the first Asian that owns a T628, in fact my friend in taiwan (who desperately wants one) has been unable to find a retailer that already sells them thus far. Most certainly, since the model was
announced in October, it has not been for sale since last summer.
My friend will be going to the China mainland shortly, via Hong Kong, so she hopes to come across a T628 soon.
