> Sync P900 to outlook - contact catagories ?
Bookmark topic
Just today I've bee trying to sync my P900 with Msoft Outlook and am having problems.
In outlook I have many contact CATAGORIES/folders
workmates
family friends
shop
etc etc
How do you sync so it creates these folders on the P900 and puts the right contacts in the right folder ?
I can select a particular folder and transfer just that one, then manually move it on the P900 but that's just daft.
I don't know how to automate this.
Anyone help ?

There is no way to do it. The phone folders have nothing to do with outlook folders. Maybe in the next Suite version or a 3rd party SW.

Just a follow up:
I'm assuming you CAN do this ?
At the moment (form what I can see) you can do a general sync which will put some contacts across from Outlook to the P900
Or you can pick a catagory in outlook (sub folders of contacts) and move that to the P900 then on the P900 manually move them to the correct catagory.
I've not yet managed to get the sync software to duplicate on the P900 any of the sub folders (with contacts in them) from Outlook.
You MUST be able to surley, else you will never be able to be sure everything in in sync.

Have you tried to make these folders on the p900?
I have done this and all seems to be OK when a contact syncs.
I noticed that the p900 synced the contacts with their default catagories, and any contacts not already on my main PC had the p900's default catagories noted a (not in master category list) when viewed in Outlook 2003

No, I had not done that as I assumed as were were doing a sync and taking a copy then anything I had done/created in outlook would be done/created on the P900
I did select just one group, sync it over, create the same group manually on the P900 then move the contacts into that folder.
If this is the case then it's no big deal. I'll just create the same named folders on the P900 and sync them over.
Will have to do some testing to see if it indeed works.
Cheers, will try that tomorrow.

Well today I typed into my P900 one of my named sub-folders under my contacts list in Outlook.
To put this clearly, in outlook Under Contacts I had a "Workmates" sun folder
I created by hand the new empty folder "Workmates" in the P900 and did a normal sync.
Guess what. Nothing was done.
The only way is to alter the sync settings to sync just 1 folder from Outlook, this is then dumped into the general contacts in the P900 then after this 1 sync move the files in the P900 into the right folder on the P900
This is really stupid. I mean why make something that syncs when it does not sync correctly......
arghhhhhh !!!!
Any other ideas around it, very much appreciated.

Well, I don't know what's happening to you. Could it be differnet Outlook and P900 software releases?
On my first sync, all my contacts from Outlook just went into the unfiled folder on the p900. But I noticed that one new contact that I had input on the p900 and placed into the 'Work' folder, had synced to outlook with the 'not in master category list' in Outlook - my Outlook did not have a 'work' category.
So I deleted all the contacts from my p900 and made the folders exactly as my Outlook categories. When I next synced the contacts, they had the correct categories.
I use Outlook 2003, and my p900 is on O2. I also have some FranklinCovey add-ins for outlook and sync with a pda.

I have recently got a P910 and am also frustrated by the inability of the sync software to sync outlook folders to phone folders. It makes the organiser part of the phone almost unusable for me. I contacted SE support and got the response, "unfortunately, sub folder contacts cannot be synchronised".
I've contemplated syncing a sub-folder at a time and moving them using the contacts manager, but that's just a way to get the contacts onto the phone, not syncing them. And there's no equivalent solution for tasks or notes, for which folders are even more important for me.
After this series of phones has been out on the market for so long, haven't SE seen a lot of requests for this functionality. It can't be too difficult - Chapura can do it for Palm.
Anyone know of a third-party sync software?
