Hi,
Can anyone tell me where to find my p800's ip-address?
In my GPRS settings it says that I get an IPnumber of my provider, but I want to know what it is.
Reason for this is that my own SMTP server works with an IP-filter and if I don't add my p800's ip-address or range then it returns an error whilst sending mail.
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
first of all you cannot be sure you'll get the same IP address or even the same class, every time you connect it.
Generally all the mobile providers, when you subscribe for GPRS or data, will grant for free a email account that works (in and out) with the mobile connection you have.
in other words, they give to you a POP and SMTP.
Now you configure your mail client for receiving mails on your "real" pop server, and use the SMTP provided with the account, to run the outbound mail.
At least in Italy works this way with the 3 providers, each one has it's own SMTP server that works (relaying email) coming from the subscribers mobile.
I hope this helps
Regards

Thanks for the showmyip.com link. I added an ip-range at my server and it now works. I can only hope that my gprs provider stays in this range, or otherwise I now know where to check it.
Basically, I know I can make use of my provider's smtp and pop settings, but somehow my goal was to make it work through my own server.
Thanks for the help!

You can use a whois ripe database to see what is the range of ip owned by your provider:
Eg:

To open your SMTP server to a range of IPs is not as smart as you might think ! First if your phone company is also an ISP it is probable that they also share the same range with dialup and/or ADSL users... this means that an user of the same provider with an IP scanner could find your server being open-relay... with obvious consequences... Second other customer of your phone company with their mobile could use it if somehow they find it (of course this is not very probable but still possible).
Then why risk when there's a better solution ? Simply enable SMTP authentication on your server ! That's what I did on mine... nobody can use it unless it has a mail account on it and knows login+password ! P900 supports authenticated SMTP... I presume P800 does the same.
In my opinion this is so far the best solution... it's not 100% safe but better than opening a range of IPs you don't own !
