Due to a screwup on my part, Ive had to return the P900 I got from Carphone Warehouse.
Next option is to go to the Link - do they clawback at all?

no, they do not. there is no way of the link knowing when customers downgrade tariffs

well, there is, but you don't get clawed back. and yes, you can get the p900 on yourplan 700 for free then swap in the first month to the £10/month data plan.

Every link store in the UK is out of stock at the moment and they are not getting in for 2 weeks. But they must be mental to not cover themselves!

how do they find out? the only way of them knowing is if the network writes to them, and the networks never bother doing that

they find out when the network operator doesnt give the retailer commission for the contract sale.

i don't think that's true, but even if it was, the employer would have a hardly notice, on the pay slip, it just says how much commision is earnt, a lump sum, let's say £350, now to see whether someone changed down tariffs or not, would mean going through everysingle connection they signed up, see how much they increased their margin by, then getting each commision per sales, working every single thing out, to see if they lost 5 quid or whatever color the connection was, the manager of my local store said that they have no way of finding out whether customers change down tariffs or not

Orange are the only network you can change down immediately on. Change to £10 a month tariff and get phone unlocked for £10. Total cost £130!
