I dunno if this is the case across the country....but are all the staff in the high street retail mobile phone stores muppets?
Over the last year or so, ive been into the majority of the stores in and around central scotland...and ive yet to meet a knowledgeable salesman/woman.

I went into one CPW store last week, looking to purchase a P900,
the following points happened
a) the staff didnt know what the model was....even after showing them in the brochure.
b) didnt know if they stocked it
c) didnt know the tariffs
d) Happily told me that the handset would cost me £329 pounds even on the Talk 1000 plan on Orange.
e) proceeded to ask me the stupid questions about what networks i call and what time of day i use the phone etc when i specifically told them I want this phone, on this tariff on this network i.e i know what i want, just get me it!!!

Also the same goes for Car salesman, they dont know what their selling!!!

It's just the same here in Preston. I've found 1 guy in The Link who is helpful & knowledgeable, the rest are just a waste of time.
I like pretending I don't know something and asking questions then end up giving them the answer just to demonstrate their incompetence!!
The worst are by far the Orange Shops! And they have the nerve to call their staff 'Phone Trainers'! I've yet to meet one who could tell me anything I didn't already know!!

yeah

the worst bitm is they thing all mobile phone owners are retards and cant read their manuals to find out stuff.

Go into Orange, "I want to talk about GPRS and its integrated use with my pc over bluetooth"

"Do you know how to add contacts to your phone book sir, we have been trained to help you with that"

"Why the f**k would anyone need to learn how to do that, its in the manual......even without a manual, a well trained chimpanzee could do it"

T-mobile, i wanted to share the gprs on my 7650 with my ipaq over the ir port. You needed ISP dependant settings to make sure the connection didnt break. I went on the phone to their technical staff, spoke to 4 different people....nothing!

"You cant do that sir! Its not possible"

"But the info required is on t-mobiles website in the US, so it must be possible"

"We are different from t-mobile USA"

"BUT THE F**KING PHONE ISNT!"

So i hung up, played about for half an hour, got it working, then phoned their technical staff back up to tell them how to do it

Honestly, dont they pay someone to play with these new phones and find out what they are capable of? They bloomin' well should.

I'd do it for them, and publish it on their homepage. Think of all the new custom they would get if they advertised the p900 on their webpage with all the office stuff, then showed c64 running it below? Or monkey island 2

Well i just have to say that i agree with you about high street retailers - staff will only know the basics and not much about linking to PCs and stuff like that.

I work in [i]orange retail[i] and i would consider myself to know a lot more than any link or phones for u employee!

But then again - i am a bit of a phone geek!

They are all idiots. And the reason why knowledgable people don't work there is because of the fact the other staff are so incompetent.

The decent staff also get worked too hard because the incompetent staff just direct all the questions to the one person who does know anything.

I have yet to find a single decent person working in a CPW or Link but don't get me started on Phones 4 U. Although because of P4U last year I ended up getting a T300 for my girlfriend and a MCA25 for my existing T300 for £140 when they were selling for £200. it was even a completely unlocked T300 no customization at all.

They need to know how to answer the VAST majority of questions they get from the average customer about the average phones, this they can normally do.

If they all knew everything about P900's it would take up far to much of their small inbuilt memory capacity, causing their brains to crash after a short discussion.

well you've just insulted a lot of people who ARE salepeople, most are muppets, you know why? because they sell to the majority which is not you guys, also it isnt possible to know every single detail about every single phone and how to link it to every single ipaq/whatever, geez people expect too much nowadays.

oh and i DO work for a phone shop as does the orange retail guy above so whoever says we are ALL stupid is obviously wrong as there are 2 contradictions to your arguement right here.
