> Which Bluetooth dongle for P900 ?
Bookmark topic
Hi,
I'm planning to buy these days a bluetooth dongle (usb) for my PC (W2K) to be able to :
- browse through internet connection of the PC
- Control my slides from the P900
- Range of 10 meters is fine (my flat is not so big), but I could spend a few more euros for a 100m.
I've read that some bluetooth dongles were not working properly... (I've heard of widcomm drivers, but I don't know for which product)
My question is the following : Can you give me the cheapests brands / products that could suit these needs ?
Thanks a lot.

On a different (but related) topic I'd be interested to know what range people are getting from their dongles. I have a TDK one and it seems to go out of range within a few metres (it is supposed to have a 50 metre range!).

surley you people arent stupid to belive that the 100m dongles will give you a 100 metere range on a p900 or p800 as they only have a range of 10 meters but youl most likley get 6 meteres max.

I think a dongle with 100M and a P900/P800 with 10m will be better, in general than, a dongle with 10m. Remember the dongle is a transceiver and the extra range will help. Any BT radio experts here - comments please.

Mine goes out of range when it's about 2m away or less. My cordless mouse/keyboard (not BT) far exceedes this range.
I'm fairly sure that I'm not stupid.

Many thanks for the comprehensive technical explanation as to why a 100m dongle is no different to a 10m dongle when used with a P900. I assume this is because the P900 is the limiting factor.
Edit: kesgreen - it appears that the P900 is the limiting factor. The more walls and other obstacles reduces the range. I did some experiments with my 100m Belkin dongle and found the number of walls separating the P900 from the dongle was critical. I have my dongle on the first floor and I link to my P900 on the ground floor (wooden flooring) the distance is about 5 to 6 metres.

I originally had a 10M USB dongle which worked when I was in the same room but not anywhere else but since getting a 100M USB one I can now connect to most rooms in my house (except conservators! All that aluminium?)
The whole house must be within 10M at any extreme point but the 100M dongle must give out a stronder signal that gets through the wall better (or this one is just better than the last).
