Just got me a P900 and its sitting on the floor "charging", apparantly I'm supposed to let it sit there for 14 hours in order to maximise its battery life, its got to be the ultimate test of willpower as all I want to do is play with it!!!!!
Can I still use it whilst its charging like this?
How long did everybody leave theirs before using it?

congratulations but I would start by reading the manual where you will find it says the initial charge is for at least 4 hours, not 14 hours.
You will need those 4 hours to start to understand the full capabilities of the unit you have just bought

First time charged battery should be formatted in 3 cycles.
1. 12-14 hours
2. 8-10 hours
3. 6-8 hours.
Even there's nothing about it in the manual (dunno why) it's recommended to do it this way.
If you peeps are VERY interested in this I could look for some detailed info about the way that a battery works cause this opinion is based on chemical facts.
And this actually works. I do it everytime I buy a new phone and battery capabilities are on their maximum for a looooong time.
The phone should be turned off during charging for the first time.
step 2 and 3 - as you prefer.
cheers

I think page 32-3 in the manual states that one should "masturbate" while waiting the initial charge cycle. Or maybe that was the manual to my girlfriend's vibrator.

There are different types of voltage supression, or "memory effect" in rechargeable batteries, caused by either incomplete charging or incomplete discharging. In either case, the performance of the battery is impaired due to the lack of ion charge carriers around the electrodes within the cell, either as a result of a build up of crystals in the electrolyte compound, (incomplete discharge) or a degradation in the ionic composition of the electrolyte in the immediate area of the electrodes. However, this only applies to the old Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Metal Hydrate batteries, and NOT to lithium ion powercells. The lithium polymer battery in a p900 is advanced technology in powercells and is not susceptible to voltage supression.
