> t68 infrared setup in winXP

this is driving me around the bend. i have got the asus ir device that connects to my motherboards ir header. it seems to be working fine as windows shows no problems with it.
however when i come to try and link my t68 with my pc, nothing happens. i get no connection between the two at all.
the phone monitor software does not show the ir port, it only shows com1, which is no good as the ir device is installed on com2. i have also tried using programs like ircomm2k and irdaw2k to show the ir device as a com port but get a message saying the "this operating system uses ir to transfer data, all ir-com ports are therefore disabled" in the phone monitor software.
the transfer rates have been set to 9600kbs and all the software from the sonyericsson site has been installed, yet still nothing.
if i got the slightest indication the the two are talking to each other it wouldn't be so bad, but absolutely nothing is happening.
can someone with winxp or the asus ir device please tell me what i am doing wrong here.
