I think the o2 offer was/is better....
£45 for three months, then drop down to what ever you want.... (cheapest is around £9 p/m for Data5)
and the phone is completely free....

You can buy it from The Link on a £50 a month tariff, phone is FREE and you dont have to wait four months to change the tariff, you can do it straight away. Plus you get the phone there and then instead of having to wait for it to be sent to you.

If its with o2, it appears some people have been lucky and down graded straight away, however I've heard o2 are now cracking down on this....and making people stay on the 3months...

They have changed their policy. O2 now no longer allow you to change for three months. Orange currently WILL allow you to change but since this will lose them money, they will probably follow suit with O2 eventually.

Orange huh? - wow
Sounds like the onestopmobileshop thingy.. aren't very competive!
@ Steve, I really hope for your sake that it wasn't thou singlepoint (*insert problem here*) I purchased a phone (a t68i if I remember) from a company called 'Jag' in the south west, after 4 days the little joystick broke, and I decided and really wanted a 7650 (at the time!) instead, anyway they were happy to cancel the contract as they didn't have any in stock, however singlepoint took 3 months to give me my first months rental back...
The orange deal sounds good!

A few points:
1 No Link store in UK has stock for at least another week
2 You can change down tariff on same day to HSD (£10 monthly)
3 They will not clawback handset price from you
4 Orange won't change their policy, The Link will as they are losing their commision on the sale!

I dont think orange will change their policy on downgrading after three months. I work in the retail side and to be honest, if u go to an orange shop, their is no reason why u cant downgrade after a month. Sales staff say three months in order to protect their margin!

This thread is full of confusion, here are some facts,
Orange, will let you downgrade as soon as you buy the phone, if you buy from Carphone warehouse or The link, because they are not providing the phone they dont care. BUT some dealers like Onestopshop, put a proviso in the contract when they sell you an Orange phone, this means you have agreed to stay on the tariff for a certain period & they will MAKE YOU PAY if you downgrade early, so it depends on who you buy the phone through, as i said so many times on this forum, Orange DO NOT HAVE ANY SUCH MINIMUM PERIOD IN THERE TERMS & CONDITIONS but when you buy through a retailer, you are agreeing to THE RETAILERS terms & conditions & this includes Orange shops.
If you wannt a cheap P900, buy from CPW, on "free phone high tariff" then ring Orange & downgrade straight away to Orange CSD £10 a month like the previous poster said. Total cost of P900 £120 or if you are unlucky & end up payiing the first month then £215.
