As far as I've been able to determine, this is another one of the many limitations of this email client... On p800 I hear it was possible to trick it into using the existing network rather than gprs by configuring a bogus (blank) gprs account and telling it to use that one.

It would fail, but it would then make use of the mrouter network instead. On p900 I haven't been able to make this work. Rather silly to have to download hundreds of headers over 5k/s gprs when there is 1mbit+ available.

For me it hasn't been a major problem though, since the email client is just too limited anyway to be of any actual use the imap implementation is particularly useless (it behaves almost like a pop3 client, polls mail and doesn't update the status of headers that have already been read/deleted by other clients). I would welcome a decent 3rd party replacement mail client, but it would have to be fairly tightly integrated into the messaging framework (like the built in client) and not a java solution like the reqwireless emailviewer.

Yes he is, it seems the networks have got in on this one and made sure the built in mail client and web-browser can only use the networks gateways, for obvious financial reasons.

I have tried the above mentioned Java solution but it cant even use the standard contacts list and I am not retyping all my contact addresses in again. Hope someone produces a credible alternative soon if I cant find one.
